Oops no poll feature here

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Oops no poll feature here

Post by Hard Sarge »

LOL sorry, forgot, this fourm does not have a poll feature

so.....

how do most of you think the US planes should be named ?

IE

P-47D
P47D
P-47-D

I was hopeing to use the block number code, so we can tell what model we are getting

so
D-20-RE
D 20_RE

I wanted to try and keep the plants out of it, so do not want to have
D-20_RE and D-20_RA

I believe that P-51D is the correct nomenclature. If there is an additional subtype included, there would be another hyphen following the D; so P-51D-NT.

For the German side the hyphen is used only with the sub type; so Fw190G-6. Quite often there will be a space w/o the hyphen between the Fw and the a/c type. This may look better, but this is not how they wrote it.

This forum has sparked my interest in BTR. It's over two years since I finished a campaign game-I going to re-install tonight. I wish you good luck with the make-over.

I am with P-47D, which is correct (IIRC), or possibly P47D which lots of people are used to. P47-D is wrong, as is P-47-D.
Further extras would be P-47D-25, but if you want to use this, there had better be a realistic transition between production batches, and stats difference in game!

Of course, the correct nomenclature for all good fighters is Spitfire F MkXIVE (or C, I'm not that fussy [;)])

not to be grouchy, but please, lets not say, this is correct, or this is the correct way to say/write

if there was a correct way to write it, I would try and do so

I got about 37 books sitting on the side of me right now, and would be able to print out each way to write something based on this or that book

some do use P-47. so also use P47, and again, some use P-47D, others use P47-D

over all there is no true, correct way to do something like this

but, we can come up with how we think feel makes it easier to read/view, I will try and do it that way

as some say, some like the underscore, others do not, but I see it in print both ways, in fact, some don't use anything,
just P 47 D RE 20
(that is a pain)

and just to state, so you under stand what I am trying to do

if I change a name, or have different models, they are not the same plane/same stat

the P47 D-20_RE [:-] has the new wing, and the new prop

so, this will be the first 47, that will be able to carry 3 drop tanks/bombs, plus it gets better climb rate, and profroms better at low Alts

the P47 D-25_RE gets the bubble top, and a new internal 65 gallon fuel tank, it gets a bump to Mrv, Dur and End

(I may drop the RE, that does not tell the player anything other then it is model coming from this plant)

All of the more reliable sources I've got access to use the the following method of nomenclature for various versions of US a/c

eg

P-47D-6-RE
P-47D-10-RE
B-17F-40-DL
B-26B-25-MA
B-24D-160-CO

And the german ones:
Bf 110 G-4
Fw 190 A-9
Bf 109 G-6/R6 (That's not the G-6 with two 20 mm wing guns but the bad/all weather capable version, R6 = Rüststand 6 and not Rüstsatz 6)
Bf 109 G-6/U4 (That's the G-6 with MK 108 engine cannon instead of the MG 151/20, appeared in the late 1943 or early 1944)

can we keep it simple?

Post by 33Vyper »

okay...I am probably going to get smacked up pretty bad here for making this suggestion...but here goes

I loved BOB and am looking forward to the remake of that and BTR. However I am not as intimately knowlegable as you guys are about the different aircraft types/models etc... I think adding all of the identifier letters and numbers after the fact is quite confusing to a more novice player. Know before you guys go all crazy I am an avid WITP player so grognard level stuff I do like. However unless you are planning on having every different plan type including those where the only made 20 of that type then the change and added a new cockpit window made another 30 then changed again and added a new machine gun....made 50 can you not simply identify the changes by a simple letter code for example

P-47A Fw-109 A
P-47B Fw-109 B
P-47C

I know...I am probably speaking sacreledge, plus I need to get a spell checker...but just an idea. It does make it easier for a more novice to pick up on things. Perhaps you could have a toggle that had "grognard level plane details" and
"hooked on phonics level plane details for Vyper".

Okay....you can all go crazy now and attack.

hi Vyper
hassle is, that is what we are trying to do

the P-47D-6 got new lines hooked up to it, so the 75 gallon drop tank could be used, before that, only the 200 gallon ferry tank could be used and it was not liked, could only use to 20K, and was dropped before all the gas was used out of it

the P-47D-20 got a new wing, that added wet or dry shackles, so either bombs or drop tanks could be carried, along with getting a new Prop, the pattleblade, giving it better climb and also low level flying

the P-47D-25 was the bubble top, a new cockpit, along with a 65 gallon internal gas tank

so....

I could give you the P-47D, but then you would not know which it was

and for the LW, the "paks" can be a pain, but they tell you what was added to the plane, by the Pak number, you can tell if the plane is loaded with a drop tank and fancy radio, or if it has a 50mm cannon hanging from it's belly

I think this is one of those damned if you do and damned if you don't ???

so how would you tell a 109 G-6/R6 from a 109 G-6/R6 ?
For game purposes with the limited length for plane names it has to be the incorrect G-6/R6 instead of something like G-6 with R6. Application of a Rüstsatz never ever changed a plane's designation.

Hi Denniss,

the key question here is would a bad weather G6 have anything extra "in game" that would justify it's inclusion ?

Does it have radar or something ? If it does, then it's probably worthwhile.
