Can't Split Daitai's Into Chutai's.....help!

Post by The Duke »

I'm in Dec '42 in a PBEM - For whatever reason, I'm unable to divide ANY of my 27-plane daitais into 9-plane chutais. Early on I did so, and those chutais are still around. However, over the past few months the 'divide unit' button has dissapeared (bombers and fighters) and now I'm unable to re-populate my carrier squadrons w/ experienced chutai units....or split daitais to cover smaller bases.

Any idea what's going on? Was this a patch thing, or a glitch? [&:]

Thanks-

There is only a (very small) number of slots that can be used for splitting air units. Once those are full, that's it, no more air units can be split.

(And those slots are for both sides, so it is entirely possible for one player to use them all and prevent his opponent from dividing his air units.)

(And no, this is not a bug. It was a design decision.)

Any bugs I report are always straight stock games.

Total of 18 divided units is the limit (eg, 9 on each side, or 12 on one, 6 on the other, etc). This includes units on the arrival track (ones that you divided, disbanded, and set to return in 90 days). I believe it also included fragments. If you have a Daitai that you absolutely need to divide, recombine some other unit and you should now be permitted to divide. Best way to police this is to use the green aircraft icon to display all LBA, sort by name, and scroll through to find all your divided units and, hopefully, ID one that you can recombine.

While the flexibility of divided units is nice, the limit means that you basically are limited to dividing units for the purpose of disbanding them into other units. If you (like me) prefer the flexibility, there are mods out there in which nearly all LBA are permanently broken down. Lots more units to deal with though.

Fragments are in a different area to split groups.

There is room for a total (both sides) of 600 fragments.
