Japanese large bombs

re: 800Kg bomb use by the Japanese

Gary Grigsby may recall the 300+ message traffic on Compuserve several years ago on War in the Pacific (his game) thread on the subject of whether the Japanese had or used large bombs. A number of historians commented that the Japanese had 800Kg aerial bombs which they used at Pearl Harbor and elsewhere. Heretofore, it was widely believed that nearly all Japanese bombs were of the 250Kg size. In order to simulate the success of the Pearl Harbor attack in many games, special surprise rules were used as it was difficult to simulate the success of that attack. Using the 800Kg bombs, large fudge factors were no longer required. Similar results to the actual attack were obtainable. Gary in fact may recall that he altered his game in one of the later "unofficial" patches [#13 or so] to reflect this. Some of the contributing historians said there were a large number of them in warehouses throughout the war and they were used in action.

I would like to express my thanks to Matrix and Gary Grigsby for getting the War in the Pacific going in a Windows environment. As a monster SPI War in the Pacific veteran, good luck.
