To take all the bases or not?

Post by AcePylut »

Question: When playing UV, do you take the effort to turn all the “enemy dots” on the map to your color?

Just wondering if I should spend the time – say as Japanese – to take all those allied bases around the map, that the allies have no chance of defending.

I ask, because I saw in an AAR that a guy snuck in Engineers and Supplies to a base far behind enemy lines, and turned it into an airport. I’m wondering if I should be taking all the “green dots” asap, to prevent this from happening, and giving me the ability to do such a job later, as the tide turns.

We're getting mixed questions here.

If attacking, sneeking a base in behind enemy lines is a good idea IF you can keep it supplied. I would suggust not to far behind enemy lines.
It will of course draw a response which will proberly lose you the base, but could mask another operation that you decide to do whilst the opponent has their attention diverted. [:D]

If defending, you should retake any such capture by the enemy.
To pre-empt it by taking all of your colours "dots" would waste too much time & resources. [:-]

Generally, check out a few historical atlases/books and find the bases that did get captured by the opposing side and maybe go for those ( attacking or defending ). But, make sure they fit into your overall plan ( and the Sc. victory requirements ).[8D]

IJN apds aren't particularly fast, nor do they carry very much. Just use them and some of the small naval garrison forces to clear up those troublesome green dots.
