v1.8 Acknowledgements

Post by jwilkerson »

Thanks to all the WITP Beta testers for helping us shake this patch out over the past 4 weeks: Mog, Frag, Pry, Xargun, MikeKraemer, and the rest.

Thanks especially to Nik and MichaelM who stuck with us 24/7 on the testing and fixing.

Thanks to Don for putting in "half days" (that's what we programmer types call 12 hour days) for the past 6 weeks to get this done.

And special thanks to Michael Wood for getting Don and I started with this code. Michael of course also did all of the 1.7.x.y changes before Don and I got involved, and Michael did several of the 1.8 changes as well.

Thanks to Erik and his team for running this patch through the production release process.

And thanks for David for putting up with us and enabling this to happen.

We'll keep the corks in the champagne bottles for another week or so, to make sure we haven't broken more things than we've fixed [;)] (and fix them if we did ! ) but we do have some ideas for other efforts as well that we will be discussing when the time is right.

This patch had the primary mission, from David, to address disppearing leaders and disappearing units. The v1.8 patch includes all of the 1.7.x.y items, done by Michael Wood, but 1.8 also includes 30 new items. Of these Joe handled the disappearing units as well as a couple of other items, Michael Wood handled several items and Don handled the leader and airgroup issues and did the bulk of the other items.

Regarding the disappearing units and leaders, Michael Wood told me he had fixed over a dozen instances of these problems previously. I fixed 4 instances of disappearing LCUs and Don fixed 5 instances of disappearing pilots. If you see any recurrance of disappearing units (or pilots) please post in the support thread and hold on to your save from right before the unit disappears, this will enable us to quickly address the issue. We have addressed all the instances of disappearing units or leaders for which we had saves.

And lastly, thanks to all of you players out there who have given us your infinite patience in waiting for 1.8 while the new guys come up to speed [&o][&o][&o]

I am almost getting religious AMEN!!!!
I LOVE this patch until now....

Just a quick question on the leader system. (no problems there yet)
How does the system now handle leaders from air groups that you divide and change the leader from?. I know that the best pilot gets promoted to leader when you divide an air group, so if you then swap that new leader for one already in the pool, you loose that (recently promoted) pilot to the leader pool ???

If so, you could get some NICE leaders into the pool that way, but doing so could cause at lot of potential problems [&:][&:][&:]

A change was made a few patches back that pilots who were made leaders could only be leaders in their own air group. This was to protect against pilots flying in one group, but being the leader of a different group. [Pilot got shot down, leader of other group dissappeared]

This change is/should be still in place.

Tested:
I split a FG in its components and changed the /A leader to another leader. The original leader of /A did not show up when I tried to change the leader of a different air group.
However when I went back to the original group, and changed leader again, the original leader of /A was available to be selected.
