Stadium Questions

A couple of questions about the stadium files:
1) What does it mean to unpack a stadium or any type of file?
2) How do you unpack a file? What software is used?
3) After it's unpacked what do you do with it. How do you get the game to recognize what you have done with an unpacked stadium?
