Has this become a dead project?

Post by caldric »

Seems it has been put way back on the burner.
Is this still a game being designed or is it even going to happen? The sole reason I came to matrix was for Pacific War and just thought it a little sad to see it become more of a fantasy then actually happening. With your continued success I guess perhaps it has become less then a priority?

I am not trying to sound contrite by any means. I just notice that Matrix is becoming a more and more commercial. And would really like to see this game before one of the Borg Gaming companies buy Matrix or something.

As with most things in gamedom, Uncommon Valor is taking a bit longer than originally planned ()good ideas keep popping up and al that ) THe plan is still to move onto it once UV is done.

No need to worry, caldric. UV is only about a month away from going gold.
After that, it's full steam ahead on WitP. And since WitP is based on the same
engine as UV (UV is more or less a smaller scale version of WitP), much of
the work has already been done and hopefully we'll see WitP in time for Christmas.

Like you, I'm very much looking forward to WitP, which will be a great improvement
over the already excellent Pacific War. And I want to commend Gary, the folks at
2by3 and the fine fellows at Matrix for taking the time to compile the long laundry
lists of improvements and additional features that have been requested by the fans
of Pacific War. And then implementing many of them in WitP. Thanks, your
efforts are appreciated!

WitP is not dead. With UV going full beta this weekend, we hopefully will be able to shift over to WitP within 1-2 months. The big issues with WitP will be adding more detailed land combat (for China/Burma, etc.), production, and more detailed weather. Other than that, we will mostly be responding to player input on UV. Although I admit the next statement is full of self-interest, but - The best thing someone interested in WitP can do is get UV when it comes out and provide feedback for how WitP should be different. The real issue with WitP is testing a game that will resolve the whole Pacific War in 1 day increments. Just testing it will take a long time. We hope the fairly generic AI in UV will be able to handle WitP, but that will be a challenge. Anyway, the better UV does, the more encouraged we will be to spend additional time on WitP and hopefully the more good feedback we will get. We'll do our best at sorting through that feedback.

Joel, it is always a pleasure to hear from you (he's alive!). Thanks for the update. I'll be one of the first in line to get UV and look forward to giving input for updates to WitP. The challenge for the AI in this game will be incredible. We wish you the very best! A general suggestion/request: is there any way we could get a once a month update on how things are going? It would not have to be very detailed, just a very brief note to let us know progress is being made. I know "it's one more thing to do", but we would very much appreciate it!

Sure, I'll try to update once a month. Currently WitP is on hold awaiting UV's completion. UV is going into final beta testing this weekend. Based on prior experience it will take 4-8 weeks to finish UV. I'll keep you posted.

This will be the greatest wargame yet. Unfortunatly for wargame companies after WitP is released there will be no one to buy other titles. Everyone will be playing this game around the clock for 2-3 years (good time for programmers to take that long awaited vaction)

Hi Mogami, I don't think the programmers will be able to take that vacation, they'll be too busy writing the version 1.1 update /bug fix edition...
