Japs only attacking in heavy rain ?!

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

Japs only attacking in heavy rain ?!

Post by Arralen »

Just started a Japs vs. Brits campaign - and got annoyed by having to attack again and again in heavy rain (sight 2) ... think this wasn't intended for the "East Asia" Campaign !!!

Is there a weather setting for generated campaigns? I am sure that there is for generated battles...WB

No, of course not !
(OR did I miss something ?)

And I must correct my statement - it's not that it's "heavy rain" every time - tried again and got "clear, 20 hours" ... with visibility "range-2" again !!

This is really getting >censored< !!!

To be honest, I don't play generated battles or campaigns. I am a history buff and I would much prefer a scenario with a human designer and some flavor of historicity at least.

I've tried once or twice, but just have not cared for the results. And that is in almost any game.

But still it is a part of the game and should work well for those who do enjoy that part of it.

Its just a personal preference...mine.

It's not just East Asia. I just started an American Army campaign, the PRESET one, not generated!!!... against Japan. All missions I got so far were with vision 2, even at 19:00, clear. (I got two at Luzon, one at Baataan).
Probably it's the only way how can Jap's infantry stand against Stuarts.
BTW I simply LOVE winning ADVANCE mission by minefields Image
Looks like missions against Japs are always with vision 2, full stop.
But Japanesse missions are not with vision 2. Not against Soviets/Mongols at least.

It doesn't sound broken to me...I expect a great deal of fighting was done at night. The 19 and 20 hours...isn't that military time for nite. I have fought battles generated by the game (my map) of Japan v USMC. Dense jungle...but clear vision from hill tops. Seemed like day to me with 15-20 hex or more vision. Didn't mean much down in the jungles, though!

Well, I simply don't fight battles with 2 visibility all the time. It gets real old and real frustrating to spot elite dug in Japs with green running GIs. So sometimes I take those 2 visibility missions, but when I don't feel like dealing with it, I just load the save from the end of the last battle and repeat until I get something with decent visibility. Not the most desirable solution, but one that works.

Hello...

In SPWAW, visibility is determined by time of day, weather and to a lesser extent, the climate. Weather is determined by time of year and location. Climate is determined by the tile set used for the battle: jungle, moderate or snow. Time of day is determined by the method of operation of the armies involved. There are other factors, of course, but these are the ones which weigh most heavily.

Given the Japanese tendency to make night attacks and to charge the enemy from close range with bayonets, the typical weather patterns of the East Asia and South Pacific jungle regions, the typical terrain found in places like Guadalcanal, a salt marsh usually covered in fog or the Stanely Owen range, dense jungle covered by clouds, the player may find visibilities to be less than optimum for use of long range fire. Longer sighting ranges and more day battles can be found on the plains of Russia.

Spotting the Japanese infantry with green troops running away was not an uncommon occurrence in the early war. As your troops get better, things will improve. War at close quarters will remain a bloody affair, but later in the war, you will be able to hold your ground.

Bye...

I am quite willing to take on those 2 vision missions, if my dask is delay or defend. or if from victory points placement I am sure it's meeting engagement.
Then I buy a lot of support mines and barbed wire, maybe few MGs, no arty ... its hard to spot for it, my four core M81 are enough.
Then I place all my forces in defence, dug in, and let the japs come to me. Maybe I may send couple of scouts to most remote VP, group enough strong to wipe japs HQ, it's usually there.
no big deal, but it's really time consuming.
