Some questions

Post by LargeSlowTarget »

In one of the screenshots I saw a Weather Forecast in the top frame. Could someone from the team please elaborate how the weather will be modeled and how it will effect operations in uv?

Will it be possible to specify payloads for aircraft and if so, will this effect range and performance (i.e. can I send B-17 farther out when loaded only with half of the max bombload)?

What does it mean that the tenders are fully functional? (sounds like Cmdr Data of TNG fame, hehe)

What about the organisation of HQs, units and leaders, will it be possible to organize the hierarchy of HQs and the attachment of units to HQs at player's discretion (e.g. creating a new Corps HQ or attach a RCT from the Americal Div to the 1st Mar Div)?

Just curious ... and impatient for the release.

I hear you LST, By the way great job on you OBC41 file!
On to the UV guru's I noticed that the U.S. Infantry Division consisted of "a division HQ, 3 Infantry regiments, an artillery battalion and an engineer battalion". Is the artillery battalion just the 155mm battalion, with the 3 105mm battalions parceled out to the infantry regiments, or is it actually the div arty of 4 battalions? Hopefully we'll be able to cross attach and attach additional units to divisions. after all the 1st Marine Division hit Guadalcanal with only two of it's own organic regiment the 1st and 5th, it had the 2nd Marines from the 2nd Marine Division attached as well as the 1st Raider, 1st Parachute and 3rd Defense Battalions attached.
Will UV have Cubs, Acorns and Lions or will they be abstracted out as support squads?
P.S. are you taking apps for playtesters?
You can run but you'll die tired!

Weather effects the chance of air missions being grounded and the chance that they will miss targets. Every hex in the game gets a different weather rating for each air phase (2 day air phases and 1 night air phase per 24 hours) and that weather rating is effected by the overall forecasted weather for the board (weather in this area was very erratic and unpredictable).
Planes fly with normal bombloads out to normal range and reduced bombloads out to extended range. Level bombers need larger airfields or they must fly with reduced bombloads. You are not allowed to modify the command structures, however, we only worry about units being near their division/brigade HQ. All Corps HQ's are generic and give benefits to any ground troops nearby (who says Gary doesn't simplify anything).
Seaplane tenders provide aviation support for seaplanes in the same hex (air units need aviation support to remain operational).
As for division OB's, we've split each division into 3 regiments and an engineer battalion, with the division artillery assets divided between the 3 regiments. Japanese divisions also have a recon regiment (sometimes tanks), and the Allies have independent Tank, Tank Destroyer, Marine Raider, and Parachute battalions. In addition there are independent AA battalions, Engineer battalions, Coast Defense battalions and Japanese SNLF and garrison battalions.
