Some Ideas on Scenario Numbers

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

Some Ideas on Scenario Numbers

Post by Wild Bill »

As more and more of you design scenarios, there will be conflicts in numbers. By that I mean that someone will use a scenario slot (number) and so will another.

To keep both, you'll have to change the numbers in one scenario to an empty slot and load it there.

Example. I have a scen070 file. Someone designs a scenario and gives its files the same number. What do I do?

I unzip the scenarios as I download them into a temp subdirectory that I made inside of SPWAW.

Then I check to see if that slot (#70) is filled. It is, so I change the number of the second scenario files to scen071 or whatever you choose to give it.

Changing the number is simple. Go to file manager in Windows, click on a scenario file name (remember, there are three of them, *.dat, *.cmt, and *.txt).

Wait just a second and click again. Now you can change it. Change the number to the one you want.

Now hit the enter key and it is saved with the new number.

THEN move it into your scen subdirectory.

A word of caution:

Never unzip a scenario into the scenario subdirectory of SPWAW. Unzip it into a temp directory, check the numbers and then decide where you want it to go.

Hopefully, before too long, we'll have a scenario manager ready for you. Mike Deltano is working on one for us right now.

I'll keep you posted.

Hi Bill, as a matter of course I always unzip scenario files into a temp folder first.
I also now keep a hard copy list of scenarios and update as I fit new ones in. A bit of a bind to set up initially, but once done, helps to keep a trake of things.
Glad to hear that a scenario manager is on the way. I suspect that it will be needed before long <grins>
One quick question about the download site. I've seen several senarios there that came with the game. Are these upgrades or are they just coppies? The info given on the site isn't always clear if it one or the other.
Thanks again for giving me so much to fill my time with again <grins> Any chance you guys at Matrix can do an article on how to compress my day, so that I can fit more gaming hours in Image)
In times of war we see the worst that man has to offer. But we also see the best that man has to offer.
