What's multiplayer like with TOAW III?

Post by leehunt27@bloomberg.net »

hey folks, i've purchased many Matrix games and am considering this one, but the PBEM multiplayer component is unclear based on what I've seen in the forums so far. How does it work? Is it like War in the Pacific & World at War, where you send a turn back and forth and watch what happens, and there's no cheating possible (great part about WiTP)??

Is it realistic to play PBEM campaigns with TOAW III? Are the tactical battles too time consuming to run back and forth? Thanks!

You make your turn, save it and send it over to your partner/opponent. When he receives it, he has the option to watch a replay of your turn (limited by the reconnaissance level - i.e. theatre fog of war). He then makes his turn and sends it back to you.

The rythm of PBEM games depends on:
  • size and complexity of the scenario
  • availability of both opponents

I've had PBEM games done in a few days and even in a single one (Crusader 41 with a fast opponent) and other that I've been playing for almost two years now (since August 2004 to be exact).

Cheating has been made much more difficult when compared with previous versions of TOAW, though I'd rather not extend myself on this very topic [8D]

Hope it helps you make the right decision [;)]
