Part 2 of FitE 5.0

Post by larryfulkerson »

Here's part of the reason it takes so long to do a turn in FitE:

Image

I don't know how you do it but I follow the Order of Battle when moving units. I have a checklist that I follow each turn/round:

(1) disembark all embarked units ( just once per turn )
(2) rest tired aircraft and assignment of missions thereto as necessary
(3) repair railroads as necessary
(4) move reinforcements if any, by rail if possible
(5) move the engineer units to supporting positions ( to help cross rivers, etc )
(6) move arty
(7) move units, not including the separate HQ units
(8) move the separate HQ units
(9) rince and repeat ( do this each turn/round )

So I end up going through the order of battle at least two times, deciding where to move each unit every round. It's time consuming but at least no unit is skipped, forgotten, or neglected. Yesterday I was moving the Axis units and there were so many of them that it took most of the day to do all five rounds properly. But, by contrast, the Soviet stuff, at least this early in the game, I can knock out in about 1/2 an hour.

There are no reinforcements this turn so I have the rail movement to myself to move the forts I want to move to better positions.  Here is an example, just west of Kiev, near the Stalin Line:

You are violating House Rule #2, by attacking from Rumania already in turn 2. Axis units there sometimes activates early, if Soviet units are being engaged as they try to move away from the border.

OKH thought the use of paratroops to cut off Riga from supply might be prudent so it was done thusly:

Axis Turn 3 still:

The 19th Panzer Div commander thought it might be a good idea to call in some airstrikes on the garrison at Wilno before the ground attack is launched.  It is hoped that the airstrikes will unentrench the Russkies somewhat:

Soviet Turn 3:

Hey you guys....when I show the losses ( like below ) do you guys want to see everything or just selected categories, or just the Rifle Squads, or ????  Anyway, here's the Soviet losses as of the beginning of turn 3:

Image

That 7351 Rifle Squads lost is the rough equivalent of about 40 divisions.

Since you are playing solitaire it's all up to you how you want to continue. Maybe just don't move them until turn 5 instead, except the ones that haven't moved and activates normal on turn 4.

Axis Turn 4:

Post by larryfulkerson »

The Axis dropped three companies of paratroopers behind this fortress on the river to get a supply
cutoff and the Soviets attacked them ruthlessly and slaughtered the 1st of the 5th Brandenburg company.
The only paratroopers left there are 12 squads total in the 3rd of the 3rd and 3rd of the 5th
Brandenburgers:
