Iron Storm and Andrew Brown Extended Map

Post by walkerd »

I am playing Iron Storm which uses Andrew Browns extended map and have the following problem.

When issued move orders the track looked good, the TF clearly moved through the channel. When it moved it went straight into the grey area which it sees as open ocean and becase stuck.

Any idea?

I am playing PBEM.

If playing PBEM, you need to make sure that the person playing the Japanese has the correct map loaded, including the map data file. If they do not, this kind of problem can happen when they execute the turn.

To get the TFs out of the prohibited zone, you need to do the following:

- Change your map data file to that for my standard map (instead of the one for the extended map). There is no need to change the map graphics, just the map data file (pwhex.dat). Make sure that the Japanese player is also using this same map data file.

- Plot moves for all TFs stuck in the prohibited areas so that they move to the nearest sea area.

- Continue playing the game until ALL TFs are in sea hexes instead of prohibited hexes.

- Swap back to the map data file for the extended map. MAKE SURE THAT THE JAPANESE PLAYER DOES THE SAME.

- Continue playing.

Note that while you are using the map data file for the standard map, you will not be able to load troops from bases in Panama and Aden.

Now that does not look like my map at all. What version R U using?

This is the readme that came with the mod...

WAR IN THE PACIFIC - IRON STORM
v2.0 PUBLIC BETA

by Alikchi + CHS team + others

======
Installation
======

1. Create an extra installation of War in the Pacific. This scenario uses
art and ship slots that conflict with both CHS and the original War in the
Pacific so this is mandatory.

2. Patch to the latest version of WitP, including beta patches.

3. Download and install Andrew Brown's map version 5
(http://www.bur.st/~akbrown/witp.html).
Make SURE you download the special map extension as well!

4. Extract this zip file into your new War in the Pacific directory. The files
should automatically fall into the necessary directories. You will have to overwrite
some art files! Click "Yes To All".

======
Changes
======
For extensive backstory and specifics on the changes see index.htm inside the IS_Manual folder.

======
Known Issues/Missing Features
======

- Sub armour may need to be adjusted - it is still high from a previous CHS release before the latest
patches. However, after seeing the effectiveness abotu Air ASW, now, I'm not sure.
- TBY SeaWolf uses the old TBM planetop.
- A few of the aircrafts' range/endurance values need to be adjusted (e.g., the Emily).
- 25th Army HQ should be planning for Alor Star, not Kota Bharu. For some reason I cannot
fix this in the editor.
- Some new ships are placed in TFs oddly and only show up at the bottom/tops of menus and
battle screens. This is a result of their placement in the databse. Use the sorting buttons
when forming TFs so you don't miss anything.
- The Russians have not been implemented yet.

And here's a pic of my map: Note No "Grey stuff" to the east...

And this is the readme from AB 5.1

War in the Pacific.
Notes for official scenarios converted to Andrew Brown's map
Version 5.1
============================================================
These notes are for official scenarios that have been converted for use
with Andrew Brown's War in the Pacific map. For further details of the
map, please visit the website www.bur.st/~akbrown/witp.html.

These scenarios are meant to be used with version 5.x of my map.

To install this scenario, unzip the all files from this zip file into
the "SCEN" folder below the War in the Pacific game folder.

All comments, questions and suggestions can be directed to "Andrew
Brown" at the Matrix Games forums.

I think I made an assumption that 5.1 was the extended map... Where can I get the map you are using?

Iron Storm should work with either my version 5 or version 6 map. I am not sure if it has been updated for the version 6 map yet - probably not. But that is a minor issue - the differences between them are not great. The big issue is whether you are both using the extended map, and the correct map data file for that map. If the scenario includes Alied bases in Aden and Panama then the extended map must be used.

Sorry 1EyedJacks. I only saw this comment after my previous reply.

There are two versions of my map - standard and extended. The difference between them is that the extended map, which I originally created for CHS, includes Panama and Aden (and the channels leading to them). Both map versions can be downloaded from my website:

TY 4 the link. I'll wait to find out what Darren is using and go from there. Nice map, by the way. I am actually looking forward to seeing the extended portion.

I have tried to install Iron Storm (IS) into my third install without success. I have "Win Zip" and "extract to" the game folder. When it came to doing my two Nik Mod in the stock install I had to extract either directly to the "ART" or "SCEN" folders for each part. Do I need to do this also??

I am trading in my two Nik Mod using stock map for a CHS and IS game against my two current PBEM opponents (1EyedJack and Wineguy) since the farthest is only mid- January 42. I had to un-install all three to fix the map problem with the southern part of AB's map on stock map for game using the stock WitP. I have them working, finally!! [&o]
