For Those Who Want to Trim the Sounds

Post by jbunnelle »

I've always found the soldier-chanting for advancing and retreating to sound a bit goofy. After all, it interferes with the overall carnage of explosions and tank tracks. To disable this, or any other sound you could do without, follow these steps:

1. Open the "Sound" directory in your main TOAW3 folder.
2. Find the sound you want to stop; they are named pretty clearly.
3. Copy and make a backup of this file just in case you want it again.
4. Right click and create a new empty .TXT.
5. Make sure you have extensions enabled: Control Panel--->Folder Options--->View tab--->Unclick "Hide extensions for known file types" box
5. Change the name of that .txt file to match the one that you want to alter; in my case, "advance.ogg" and "retreat.ogg"; just make sure you change the extension from .txt to .ogg.
6. Click "Yes" to the warning about making the file unusable.

So you should have a 0 byte file with exactly the same name and extension as the one you are replacing. Seems to work fine with .ogg files, just as it did with .wav files in classic TOAW.
