New Icon Editor / Converter for War In Russia

I've uploaded to my website some new tools you can use to edit your War In Russia icons. The new tools can be downloaded for free at:

First, there are two icon editors that you can use to create your own new aircraft, map, and tank icons. The one catch is that you need Microsoft Excel (97 or later) in order to run these editors. Included with the editors is a partial update of some of the symbol files to give you an idea of what you can do (Check out the symbol files).

Secondly, I have uploaded a standalone program (IconMap 1.0) created using VB 5.0 (you don't need Microsoft Excel this time!). IconMap will convert War In Russia symbol files (.SYM) into bitmaps that you can edit with your favorite paint program. When you've finished modifying the bitmap, IconMap will convert the bitmap back into War In Russia symbol format.

I must thank Nick Papp for his suggestion to create such a tool.

IconMap will work on aircraft, tank, and map icon files. It also works equally well with Carrier Strike and Pacific War symbol files. Included with the IconMap download are some sample bitmap files to give you an idea of what's possible, I've actually done some work on updating the WIR icons.

I had hoped to give you all a complete icon set update, but I have been way too busy. So I'm hoping there are some artists out there who will update the set similar to what Major Tom and I did for Pacific War.

I'll be gone for a long weekend, but I wanted to get this out to you guys before I left. Hope you find it useful.
