Basically, all scenarios shipped with the TOAW III release are playable in PBEM mode. I would even say that the overwhelming majority of designs these last years have been made to be played PBEM first, given how little the PO had to show for itself before Ralph woke it up.

Sure you meant PBEM? [;)]

I bet one of you benevolent souls out there will take the opportunity of this weekend to go through all of the scenarios and make a list of which ones are PBEM only. I would do it but I have to paint and mow the yard; oh, and I don't have my copy yet.[:(]

Of course it's PBEM only.

Still no answer?

Yep..

Well it doesn't.

There was this:

In the meantime...with the exception of the Balkans '12 scenario, I believe you can play any of the scenarios in the Classic TOAW against the PO, either side.

So does that mean there is only 1?

[:-]

That thread, BTW, is what caused me to start this thread.

I don't see what the big deal is. Just tell me how many scenarios are PBEM only.

I haven't got my copy yet either.

But why should anyone have to do this? Don't the folks who made the game know what they did?

Neither do I. All scenarios are PBEM. What difference does it make whether they are PBEM-only or not? The Q maybe should be which are PO-playable and that's why I posted the reference. To quote from that:

"The problem in scenario selection was with the quality of the PO/AI, not whether or not it existed. It won't help for instance in a Normandy 1944 scenario if all your German PO formation objectives are in Southern France- say Monte Carlo- for example. Or (maybe even better) Berlin.

If you have interest I've an Excel S/S from several years back now that did try to identify PO functionality by scenario. There may be newer scenarios out there and some may have been updated, but it might give you some help on this. Please PM me with your e-mail address if you'd like a copy."

Just trying to be helpful.

It is a shame that this issue is becomming a distraction. All but one of the Classic Scenarios are playable agains the AI. From what I can see, the overwhelming majority of the new scenarios also are playable against AI.

Someone at Matrix should prepare a list of those scenarios that are PBEM only. This will eliminate any reluctance from a perspective purchaser. This issue should not detract from a great game and a great value in its current version.

Incidentally, I do all my wargaming against AIs and I am enjoying this game immensely.

Thank you Johnnie. We are reviewing the scenarios and will have a list available as quickly as we can.

In the meantime, I guess people can play the game with some of the 80+ scenarios that have already been flagged as PO-capable. That should give them somewhere in the vicinity of 1000+ hours of game time. Or, they can spend their time on the forum whining about the scenarios that aren't flagged.

I know which I would rather spend my time doing...

With all due respect, I don't see this as whining. Some have provided constructive criticism and advice. Please be courteous about people's concerns and frustrations.

With all due respect and appreciation, I have to argue that we have been courteous regarding people's concerns and frustrations. In fact, we've answered to them several times, apologizing for the situation, explaining the situation, and promising a fix for the situation. However, that takes time. Starting new threads, and continuing to revisit things that have already been addressed, however, is simply beating a dead horse, and in my eyes, whining.

Well, darnit, this OBVIOUS attempt by the CORPORATE BIGWIGS to confuse me utterly by releasing this game WITHOUT making it EXTREMELY CLEAR what scenarios are PO enabled, or even IDENTIFYING the ones I MIGHT LIKE, has got me so TURNED AROUND that I'm having problems POSTING without using EMPHASIS, and I can't sleep and my halitosis has GOTTEN WORSE, even though I DON"T HAVE THE GAME YET.

Can I have SOME CHEESE with that whine? [;)]

Seriously, I can see how it is an annoyance, but since it's going to be fixed I'll wait and control the voices in my head.  I hope somebody who isn't as easily RATTLED AS ME does see this as an opportunity to start a fansite that categorizes the available scenarios and allows for feedback from the great unwashed.

I dont think Matrix needs to apologize for this. The overwhelming majority of scenarios have some type of documentation regarding whether or not the scenarios are pbem only. Keep in mind most of these scenarios were created by the player community at a time when the PO wasnt that great and most serious players prefer to go head to head. Also, the designers, by making them pbem only, were not limited by TOAWs engine and could get creative. Some of the most unique designs are the best and in those it might be impossible to get the PO to function reasonably. There are over 100 scenarios here, some of which could have been stand alone game in their own right. At worst, we should thank Matrix for going out there and selecting and including so many of player community created designs. In essence, they did the footwork we, as players, might have been expected to do.
Bottom line: players should be reading the documentation before starting any game. Also, take into consideration that these guys have already stated that this will be addressed in future patches, but I don't think it is fair to look at this very minor issue as a fault of the game[:@]

Go for it. I think you might- depending on how you go about it- get a lot of support from the great unwashed (players?).

This brings up a question, does a user made scenarios that are AI enabled, also benefit from the new Matrix AI or is it limited to the old original AI? Also, when we download a user made scenario that wasn't included in TOAWIII and open it in the editor, does the new Matrix AI take effect or is the old original AI still in charge? Does the orinal creator of a scenario need to update his/her scenario with the new AI?

Yes, they do benefit from the new Elmer.
Also, when we download a user made scenario that wasn't included in TOAWIII and open it in the editor, does the new Matrix AI take effect or is the old original AI still in charge?
The new one takes effect, with all its improvements. That said, if the old PO was poorly set up (lack of objectives, of formation orders and the like), the new PO won't be able to spontaneously overcome these design shortcomings.
Does the orinal creator of a scenario need to update his/her scenario with the new AI?
If the PO was already correctly implemented, he needs not in so far as the scenario will play well against the PO. But, given the nature of the improvements to the PO brought by TOAW III, it'll probably be worth for the designer to revisit his scenario taking into account the new capacities of the PO to optimize the game for PO play.

Hope it helps.

You have to separate the new- and by all accounts much improved- AI itself from the scenarios. The scenarios remain the same, but it's how the new Matrix AI plays them that's different.
