Forts/churches

Post by wodin »

A quick note. Whilst mesiing around with the game I noticed on some maps when you right click on a fort it doesnt come up. It just shows the terrian instead. Not all forts but a few.

HOWVEVER I cant remember which maps but it happened on two I tried.

Maybe a beta tester needs togo through all the maps to make sure the forts work properly.

I expect if the graphic is there but it doesnt show when you right click it wouldnt be working properly?

wodin,

Remember that terrain type is stored in 100m grids. Sometimes the alighnment of these and the image displayed are slightly offset. Try clicking around it.

wodin, I did get the same "problem"...but then GoodGuy told me you REALLY need to click like a madman everywhere inside and around the church or fort to get the right popup. And eventually it does popup. Clicking just a few times is not enough, you have to click in dozens places and you have to be exactly on the right pixel to get it. Try clicking in the corners of the drawing.

Another way to tell if the fort is 'really' there is to park a big unit over the top of it. Look in the terrain info line for the unit and you'll see if it thinks there's a fort there or not.

Korinthos the fort\church in the centre of the town and the one above the barracks. I cant seem to get them to come up.

The one in the centre of Examilla and the one to the east of the town.
Seems tobe the ones that are in a town or city. The ones in the open are easy to find.

I noticed this too. My suspicion is that except for the roads, the town/village etc. terrain tile is overlapping the other terrain types, like forts.

OK, I verified the following with a terrain test.

1. If the fort is within an urban area terrain type, it will not pop up with a right click.

2. If the fort is in an urban area terrain type there is no additional defence benefit (you get the urban defence only), but the movement rates are effected (motorized especially) by the fort.

3. if the fort is partially in the urban area and partially out of the urban area, the fort is fully recognized outside of the urban area, but where the fort lies within the urban area 2. applies.

Hope this helps.

I'm getting the same.. as simovitch says if there's any other terrain it overlays on the church/fort. It's not just the popup either - when a unit is directly over the fort, it doesn't show in the terrain field (in this case just village shows)

Banquet,
I just did the same test with a fort in a woods overlay and the fort shows up just fine in the woods as a fort/woods combination. And a fort in the woods provides better protection (due to the combined terrain) than a fort in the open.

The urban condition may or may not be a bug, I don't know. It may be that a fort in the urban setting is meant to represent more of a roadblock to motorized movement; but sharing the same defensive benefits of the surrounding buildings. [&:]
