Experience formula

Post by Barbos »

I try to "teach" my troops and so would like to know formula that adds experience to ground and air units. Please explain me how it depends on participation in battle events, victories/ losses /replacements/ training etc. Thanks.

Air groops can be trained by assigning to appropriate mission of training. But they gain experience VERY slow after reaching level 60.
As for ground troops there are two cases for Axis: minor allies and German units themselves. Minors can be trained by assigning them as a 'auxiliary unit' to German korps. For example: 1) inf. korps with 3 German divs and 1 Romanian div
2) panzer korps consisting of 3 ger.pz.divs, 1 ger.moto.div. and 1-2 'auxiliary' cav.divs.
Since core German units have very high experience from the begining, I do not see other way to train them and their experience will decrease slowly because of losses.
I can't say anything about Soviet units because I did't play full campaign for them yet.
As for experience influencing factors. I believe that any combat increases experience and fresh(green) replacements decrease it.
One more thing I can tell is that ground units train themselves without combat to a certain level of experience. It seems that generic ground German troops train to level 80 and SS ground troops train to 95(or 90?).
Can't say anything about Soviets again but they all have experience of 80+ in the begining of '44 scenario so there probably is the same rule.

The SS definitely train to a higher level than other Axis units as you say, and they can do it very quickly, like 5% per turn without combat. I am not sure, but the default German experience without combat may go down later in the game, when they were historically calling up almost everyone available. For the Soviets, I believe they start out with a lower default level, like 50-60, but it goes up each year after the first if so.

Mist has a great method for building experience in the Axis allies also - combining German and non-German allows the unit to be stronger than a pure allied one, helping prevent shatter problems in pure Axis allied units.
