CHS 2.03 Test Game TheElf vs. Nomad
As if I'm not busy enough I have agreed to do this Japanese AAR in conjuntion with Nomad's own Allied AAR. We are playing CHS 2.03 EXPERIMENTAL A2A with Soviet Navy at start on Andrew Brown's Awesome extended map. WitP Version 1.801

None to speak of really. Since this is test I am loath to go crazy with the 1st turn moves. My Strategy is to get the thing running and avoid any major changes to the preset strategy and production. As I get a feel for the way the game is progressing I will consider alternative strategies and begin fiddling with production.
Along the way I will mote any OoB discrepancies and consider activating the Soviets to see how the new Soviet Naval Air Arm, expanded LCUs, and CD units work.
Generally speaking I play a conservative game and QA all my moves with my trusty BS filter. I avoid gamey tactics using a solid foundation of historical sense, and an ideal of fairplay. We have no house rules to speak of as we hope the CHS and version 1.801 have made the necessary tweaks such that they are no longer necessary.
One thing Nomad and I agree on is that any Amphibious operation where territory is taken MUST be properly supported. (i.e Land, Sea, Air)

The Opening Salvos:
Dec 7th 1941, the combined forces of the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy have launched their long awaited attack against
the meddling Western Powers. The Greater Asian Co-prosperity Sphere will soon be a reality.

The SS S-39 departs Manila Bay destined
to go down in the historybooks as the
vessel that started WWII in the Pacific
It seems ironic then that the first strike of the War be made by…USS S-39! Yes unbeknownst to the Imperial Japanese Navy,
word of the impending invasion of the Phillipines was somehow leaked to the Skipper of this unassuming boat.
In the wee hours of the morning of 8 Dec 1941(West of the International Dateline) the S-39 finds itself surrounded by a
Japanese Amphibious force headed directly toward Mindanao.
What would you do?

associated with a dead Submarine.

I'm curious to see what the new CHS looks like. Going to wait until the shakedown CHS cruise is over then I'm going to download it and make a non respawn version. I'm terribly gun shy of the editor now however, after having been violated by its' user friendlyliness in the past.

RE: CHS 2.03 Test Game TheElf vs. Nomad
I'm glad to see someone starting up as I await version 2.04 to get my two PBEM games as the Allies started. I like the looks of this game and the map a lot after playing stock for 1 1/2 years. Hopefully, my learning curve will not be so great.
Question: Any kind of house rule for Jap subs or KB coming into the channels that lead to Panama and/or Middle East??

I'm hoping like hell my opponent Bill W will send his subs or KB into the channels because contrary to what one may think, as long as you keep sufficient escorts around your convoys and sufficient airpower in the Mid East and Panama (like was done historically) the risks to the Japanese player outweigh any gains...can't destroy the docks for example.

The Daylight hours:
Unaware of the premature start of hostilities off the coast of Mindanao earlier in the morning, Air Units of the Imperial Japanese Naval Air Forces lift off from Saigon for Singapore. These elite aviators have been waiting patiently for the opportunity to show the west just how underestimated they have been. It is time to strike and strike hard!
Nells Leaving Indo-China are cheered by hopeful maintainers
The Raid was executed flawlessly, acheiving total suprise and catching the RAF fighter units flat-footed. Only 10 inferior Brewster Buffaloes mustered enough moxy to rise to the defense of Britain's Jewel of the East. Through no fault of their own the crews of the strike force produced results that were less than desirable. A broken layer at 6,000 feet made target acquisition and identification difficult. Though 28 aircraft recieved damage, most of it was due to heavy flak in the target area and the need to drop altitude for target Acq.

Attack on Clark Field:
Finding more favorable weather in the Phillipines, the Second large raid of the day produced wonderful results! The reaction of the Americans to the well coordinated and unexpected strike on Clark Field is no more suprising than the sloth exhibited by their long ailing allies the British. How would the americans say...."Birds of a feather?"

The Aftermath, Clark Burns
The Big Show:
All of Japan's hopes and dreams of equality among the old world powers rested on the outcome of this most important of the three pronged attack on the West. in the early morning hours of 7 December the Air units of the Kido Butai performed a feat that can only be described as a "Divine Wind" to those who did not witness it first hand. Results were spectacular, and the months of planning and training invested by our heroic aviators are to be commended, may this Divine Wind continue to rage in our favor...

Totals for the day. Not a great day for Air combat due to the suprise factor, but good to see Sakai and Ota get on the board early. With a little luck the damage caused at Pearl will tell. Hoping that a couple more BBs founder in the harbor. Would help make the higher than historical losses to KB easier to take. Man that was tough to watch... Should see more sinkings on turn 2 elsewhere on the map...
Are you happy now Ron?...ye of little faith![;)]

Okay, I will be a bit critical - maybe just a matter of taste, but I don't need to see all those pastes from the combat reports. You can always just attach it (but not embed) for those who want to read it. My 2 cents, feel free to ignore me.
