WIR on windowsMe

Post by Tom K »

Two main problems so far-the not enough memory message when attempting to acess divisions in large corps to change unit type,it just will not let you do it! The other problem just started manifesting itself as I am into the 6th turn of the 41 campaign-the whole screen cuts out on a regular basis and drops to the tool bar-click on it and it comes back but it is a pain. Great to even try to play WIR again tho-I started way back w/Second Front in 89 or so-the reason I bought my first non-Atari computer. Thank for any help you can offer.

Sorry, but don't have any kind of real advice for ME. I have been using ME for playing/playtesting/scenario adjustments and have never had any kind of problem. I even ran the old Stalingrad game from AH/Atomic at the same time while working on the WIR Stalingrad scenario and never had problems alt-tabbing between the two programs. This is amazing to me as under Win 95/98 I couldn't even play Stalingrad without going into DOS mode as it would crash within the first 2 turns every time otherwise.

One thing that may help, though. You may want to try right clicking on the WIR shortcut if you have one (I created my own rather than using the Matrix one which reduces available memory), go to Programs and set it to Prevent MS-DOS programs from detecting Windows. Now that I think of it though, the key may be to create your own shortcut and ignore the Matrix one. If it works, let us all know.

I am running WIR on ME and find that it will drop to task bar when another operation starts such as my son using the modum through internet sharing, etc,

When you hit on task bar game will restart where tou were at.

Frustration value only.

Still no luck w/ memory problem trying the alternate log-on and right click. Is it possible that ME just dosen't have the juice to cover the DOS? Still frustrating, being unable to do anything w/ those large units. Any other ideas would be most welcome! Thanks, Tom K

I have had no problems. I go to start (my windows is in German so it says Ausfuhren) and then choose the directory so that I start wir in Dos. I never use the matrix start as that freezes after a number of starts.
