Cant get into playing CM , so Panzer Command ...

Hi guys

I have try to play CM few times and still cant get into the game


Does this mean Panzer Command is definitely not for me ?

Well, they are different games so it really depends on what turns you off about CM. If you don't like 3D and the tactical scale or something that they both have in common, then it may affect your enjoyment of Panzer Command. However, if it's something more specific, you should give it a try as there are big differences beyond the scale and graphics.

I did not like the UI in CM. I hope your UI is easier to use.

There are two things that should make things a bit easier for certain in Panzer Command vs. CM, though I personally find the CM interface to be pretty good. First, we have a list of icons, one for each vehicle or squad. You can click on them to select a unit or double-click to move to a unit, which makes it easy to find everything you've got. Second, we have a mini-map with every friendly and enemy unit marked with a colored dot.

By the way, do we have to worry about supplies in this game??? I have 30 shots with my tank, etc??

No, but your units can run out of ammo. We do checks when units fire based on realistic ammo levels and you are aware as the commander whether a unit is out of ammo or not (you get a message and that ammo type is no longer available as a choice for the unit). The result is that you know that the more rare ammo types will not tend to last long but you don't have to count each shell. AP and HE are generally the most common ammo types and will tend to run out much less quickly than APCR, for example.

Note that while you can target and choose a specific ammo type, you can also just target (in which case your units will choose their best available ammo type) or let them auto-target themselves based on the platoon orders.

Sounds like the cannons in MM's Bull Run. They can run out of ammo as well. Weird that there are ammo wagons for infantry, but, none for cannons.

There is a lot less to worry about in PZC, giving orders is more straightforward.

Some things are clearly better such as the artillery model, and other features help a lot when you want to figure out what is happening where, namely the event log and the minimap.

In the end, however, there are similarities and I don't think that CM's user interface was bad. I would be curious how exactly CM's UI was bad or hard to use.

Personally, although I think the CM interface is good and has great efficiency, I didn't like that it had a pretty much total absense of status and overview. As a new player that hurt particularly bad.

If you had the same problem then you'd like PZC better. If on the other hand you don't like the left'n'right klicking business then you are about to see the same.

It would be good to know, as that could lead to improvements.
 
  I like the idea in this game about having all your units in front of you,
and man I hope it scrolls otherwise battles will be limited to the amount
of units you coudl fit on that screen, and that would be a drawback.

redwolf, he isn't talking about scrolling the map, but the OB display.  Is there a hard limit as to how many units can be in play at once?

The OB display can't be scrolled. On the other hand there is no real hard limit regarding units that can be in play at once.  I created some test skirmish battles with 65-70 units on one side not counting the supporting air and artillery, your hardware is more or less the limit there.

Currently, the OOB display stops at 52 units. It's a reasonable performance limit, but it's not a hard limit. Aesthetically, going over that looks bad as the new unit icons simply overlap the bottom of the interface, but it won't break the game. Adding a way to scroll this to make it fully capable of any number of units without looking ugly is on the future improvements list.

This game looks good.  i looked at their web site and the link above. 
 
Unless I missed something, is there a way to jump inside the tank and play as a gunner or commander (from the turret)? ... like Steelbeasts?
 
And ... I think I know the answer from the screen shots BUT ... Can you rotate and zoom your world view?   ... i think the answer is yes based on the views in the AAR from above.
