Supply Locations

Post by Major Tom »

I am wondering which cities/hexes are the base for supply in War in Russia. I know that Berlin is an Axis supply base, but, are there others for the Axis, and where are the Soviet ones? Can the supply location hexes be moved? I am wondering if the supply bases could be reversed? I want to have the German forces attack from East to West, instead of West to East, and the Soviet forces to attack West to East instead of East to West.

However, when I switch around the units, with the Germans in the East and the Russians in the West, with all cities and hexes in the East changed to German and all cities and hexes in the West changed to Russian. However, both the German and Soviet hexes rated as zero supply by turn 2 (even with the cities and hexes changed), since their supply bases (Berlin for Germans, and wherever for the Russians) were under 'enemy' control.

I looked in the editor within the WiR game, as well as WIREDIT, but cannot find them.

Here are the questions that I need answered...

Where are all supply bases located?

Can these bases be moved?

Are they connected to the Cities or the Hexes?

Would moving Berlin, in WIREDIT to where Moscow is, and moving the Russian supply city to where Berlin is solve the supply problem if the sides are switched?

Is supply located in the OBC files or the EXE files?

Thanks,

Jeremy

I am not sure of all the answers but here is what I am fairly sure of. The Axis supply sources include Berlin, Helsinki and Frankfurt or some city nearby. Mist I believe mentioned the exact one recently. For the Soviets there are sources at Moscow (I think), at least the one rail hex on the eastern map edge east of Moscow, and the old Baku location or something similar. Again, I think Mist has a good idea of these.

I am almost positive that Arnaud has indicated that supply sources are hard coded into the game code. He has talked about us being careful moving cities around because things are hard coded to thier location, and I think this is why. As a result, I don't think moving the city locations around will do anything about supply. What may allow you to make it work, though, without hacking the exe, would be to make a map edge rail line on the top and bottom from an actual supply source on one side to the other side, keeping the supply source as the side needing supply. This is not elegant and would have problems if any of the real supply sources fell to the original side, but it would work up to a point.

Not easy to do no matter what, so trying to hack the exe might be easiest. Good luck.

I was lucky enough to find my previous post about it :) Ok. Here are the data:
I've discovered three supply hexes for each side.

Soviet

(71,18) SL6 comes from Ural
(71,64) SL5 comes from Baku
(53,0 ) SL5 comes from Murmansk

Axis

(33,4) SL5 comes from Helsinki
(2,31) SL6(10 under the Blitzkrieg) comes from Essen
(12,28)SL6(10 under the Blitzkrieg) comes from Berlin

IMHO, supply locations are coded(possibly hard) inside of exe file and can not be moved by map/scenario editor. I had tried to move Baku supply source to Crimea by mean of changing of its coordinates and renaming it to Kerch. Nothing happened with supply sources.
