XML Help

Post by CBeasley37 »

I'm almost finished my first season with a fictional league that mirrors MLB. I must say how much I've enjoyed playing this great game so far!
The only thing that has bothered me about the numbers in my league are the HR's (way to many - 15 players over 40 HR's and 3 over 60), and this probally relates to the HR's also but no pitcher in my league will come close to 20 wins.
I've looked through the XML file, but need a little help with what to change to balance the numbers out some.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Chris

Do a google search like xml puresim and a few links will come up, however there doesn't seem to be a lot of info on adjusting.

I'm kind of scared to mess with it myself.

Guys,

Amaroq and Lynchjim are the two resident XML wizards. I can't help too much, but can give you the following advice: MAKE SURE TO BACK UP THE ORIGINAL XML! This way you can mess around with the XML and not worry!

Here's an old thread about xml from an older PS version, but I would think most of it is still relevantl:

For the HR's, why not adjust it in-game? There is a slider for HR's. I used it to get the numbers more where I wanted them, and seemed to work fine.

Thanks for all the help. That thread was a big help with understanding the XML.

I must have missed a HR slider in game. I'll go back and look for it.

Thanks again for the help guys!

Glad to be of service!

To access the sliders, from your association, (not from the main screen with opening options), click options and utilities, which is in the Quick links box. The last tab on the pop up is association settings and the name of your association. choose that tab. On the very bottom is a button: edit advanced simulation settings, click that and voila!

Make sure you check your parks too. Some of the parks in the game are real hitters parks, and that could inflate your totals. I usually assign parks to each team myself so I can make sure everyone has an appropriate one. No having New Orleans playing in Coors Field a mile above sea level...although I bet that stadium would be impressive as all get out. :)

It's pretty easy to do it in the XML if you find that you have to.

There is a thread around here that links back to the old board and has where I broke down section by section what you could do at that point.

It's funny you should mention Coors Field.
The league leader in HR's in my league was from the Rockies. He hit 66 HR's and he only had 80 power and a 71 eye.
The guy who came in second hit 62 HR's for the Marlins. He has 100 power and a 85 eye.

Thanks again for all the info!

Hmmm, I've been playing a fictional association (with all fictional, computer-generated players) that has gone 15 seasons (first season was calendar year 1990) and for the first time (in my most recent season, 2004) a single player finally reached the 60 HR threshold. There had been several players (and some players multiple times) to reach mid-50's, but so far only one player in the 60 club.

As well, I've had MANY pitchers reach 20+ wins (some of the better one multiple times), and this is with conventional 5-man rotations. I think the record is about 24 wins.

All of my settings are "default", so these results seemed "normal" to me since they had a tendency to mimic MLB results.

Perhaps the difference is simply the generation of the players by the computer. And since this was your first season, perhaps this was just an aberration, and following seasons might be more "normal"
