PBEM agreements
PBEM agreements
What kind of agreements can take place before starting PBEM? I dont mean obvisous 'no-cheats'. What is used to balance play human against human if their playing levels differ very much? At which side would majority of you prefer to play?
It seems to me that Soviet side has almost ensured draw ending. Could the either of the following examples of agreements to take place in pbem:
1) Soviets do not evacuate factories(what if?)
2) Kiev is set as Axis objective with value 1(huge moral factor, Soviets panic)
3) Neither side changes leaders
4) Neither side applies special supply

That is easy, if one player is more skilled then the other player gets to learn those skills the hard way. If you are about to play a game with someone you feel is a better player then spend some time experimenting with the game to improve your play. However it is the pressure of combat with a real opponent that really brings out the best in most players.
I have learnt a lot in PBEM games over the past few months by getting my butt kicked
in various battles and hopefully this has made me a better player.

Thanx, Loki! But what if it would be too boring to play the same long game during half of year and end as draw? Only thought about it kills any wish to play by email.
I just ask, whether are known any options which were taking place in WiR pbems?
The options you have in Wir PBEM's is to play your best game and not worry if it results in a 'draw'. The fun is in the playing and to miss out on that fun is your loss.
How is this for a new aphorism. "Even if he wins it's only because of numbers, not skill"
As happened only today i had the satisfaction of forcing a soviet tank army to surrender even though the rest of the front is pulling back(43 game, and the only game i play as the germans) and i only hope he has not learned to be more cautious.
Am i speaking through my backside? I've 4(four) games running at the moment. Why dont you try 1(one).
You seem to have the spare time.

PS. Just want to say i cannot speak highly enough of the russian(is that a dirty word for you?, where is dubna?) space effort. The plan for a launch base in australia almost makes me want to get up and lobby for it.If my blood could help this cause i would shed it. I feel the Yanks are put out by this. Hey that space is ours!!! What are you doing there?? (hehe)

Hey, Loki! Do you mean that noone will play with me if I want to refuse evacuate factories and to place axis objective to Kiev and play as Soviet? We don't understand each other at all. I don't afraid more skillfull oponent and I am sure that I am not the worst player. I am just checking are there any common OPTIONS? Did anyone make ANY agreements in pbems? ANYONE? HALO?
What is considered as cheat except of savegame hacking? What about production changes in pbems? Is it allowed or is it forbiden? OPTIONS?

Tha main problem is that my spare time is not evenly distributed. So, there are periods when I dont play for weeks. I doubt anyone is patient enough to wait for weeks.

What he said was "Three cheers for the gallant cosmonauts and scientists of the soviet (oops russian) space agency!"
They are thinking of building a launch base in Australia.
He asked were you live in case you were a georgian or chechen gangster.
Anyway, my opponent and are playing with 2 rules
1. Finnish forces are under computer operational control - human can only set objectives. Restriction ends if German manages to take Leningrad.
2. You cannot have a panzer/tank corps unless there is at least 1 panzer/tank division inside it.

Well.. I did not know about launch base in Australia.
is it serious?

You can mention as Russian. I am not a gangster. Just don't call me paranoid. Because I am unexplainably afraid of it.

thank you thank you thank you! Are any other rules known? What is about special supply? Using 2 HQs - 1 for special supply, another for action? Is it ok?

There are no set rules for playing a PBEM game. It is between the two players to agree on before the game starts. You can propose any rules you want as long as your opponent agrees to them. There are people who have played this game by e-mail before Matrix brought out the revisions and they seemed to have some set house rules on how to play the game but many of the things they aggreed on have been resolved in the Matrix revisions. I personally don't know what the old house rules were, I'm sorry. If anyone out there knows the old house rules, I'm sure Mist would like to hear them.

I very much hope so. Australia needs a 'big brother' to give us incentive and i feel that Russia is a perfect choice. Lets show those 'damm Yankees' and Europeans that space is the way to go and you do not need to be a 'superpower' to get there. The new frontier.
(any money not spent on guns but on space is a good investment)
Regarding pbem agreements.
I have not played with any 'rules' before the game but have made cease-fire lines during games due to blizzard rules. I do not imply that you are not a good player but i would not play a game with you with such rules a no evacuation of factories and the Kiev (1) point rule because the germans do not need them. I'm sorry but i do not start a game to 'win' but to have fun. If i win then that is good because i've done everything right but if it is a draw or i loose then that is OK too.
It is only a game.

PS. Sorry for the crack about spare time. I've 5-6 hours at night to play so i can reply to turns the same day. If you have irregular hours then pbem would be a big problem. Dubna and Maclean (My town) should be sister cities.(I would not like your cold winter nights)
EDIT
PPS. Thank you Martinov for moderating.

Shhhh... Collin Wright can hear you and call paranoid!!!
I like the idea to cooperate with Australia in space efforts. Who will own this launch base? Is it usual in Australia to dislike 'damn yankees'?
What do majority of Australian population think about cooperation with Russia? You know, we have terrible corruption
Regarding pbem agreements.
I am looking for a way to play "quick" game which woould not take more than a month or two. I will probably have enough time this summer to play regulary 1-2 turns per day.

Do not know who will own the base. Have to overcome international pressures to the deal first.
I like Americans just fine (and somalis and greeks and ......) But many aussies dislike american corporations and their 'big money tactics'. We do not forget even though it would be in our best financial interests to do so. And i remember a place in India called Bhopal. (just one of many)
Thought NASA was very childish to complain about that guy who payed millions to go into orbit in a Russian ship. The attitude of 'we own the ships so we own the place they go to'
must be squashed now. Nobody 'owns' space.
Dont worry about the corruption, it will fade
into the infrastructure as the country settles down. Russia is a great country with a long history and rich culture, be patient.
The Majority of people in Australia are like the majority of people in any country, if asked to draw the current borders of Russia they would look at you and say 'Russia? thats a country isnt it?'
Yes i know all of this is very 'off topic' but we are adults here and we make our own rules.

Hey, I got news for ya, there are lots of *Americans* who don't like the big money tactics either. At least you don't have to listen to the big American tobacco companies that have sworn repeatedly over the last thirty years that cigarettes aren't addictive, and they don't kill.
And i remember a place in India called Bhopal. (just one of many)
I remember too.

Didn't that guy go to the international space station? That's partially owned by the US.

Don't believe anyone has said so.

I'm certainly hoping for this, but I worry too, because your country's long history didn't include democracy until 1991.

God, dont talk about cigaretes. I gave them up recently and if they are not addictive then why did i feel like climbing the walls?
I'm glad you remember. I dont classify people by nationality but as individuals. Some corporations, no matter from which country, have the moral codes of Vlad the
Impaler. (whatever is expedient)
I feel that Nasa and the ESA are setting up a
bureacratic wall as more launch power comes on line. If i had $50 Billion and started to build my own ship to launch from some outback(aus) site to put myself in orbit.
All sorts of 'authority' from all over the world would be on my back quick smart with one thousand and one reasons why i cant do this(and also many individuals would support me) The frontier spirit(re: Space) is now copywrit, owned by government for their use only.
