Research: useless feature?

Post by Mist »

Hi All!
I am curious whether anyone really uses this feature with practical benefits? I've made a test by switching all panzer factories to Kingstiger at 22.06.41. Waited until mid-november'41. Then had took a look at apearing date of this panzer. It shifted by 4 weeks. And that was done with all possible factories researching it nearly 5(five!) months. ENORMOUS price for very very little gain. What are your opinions guys? Thanx!

I tested a game out where I switched all tank production to Panthers and all air production to Bf-109G.

5-3-42 Bf-109G became avilable and 10-4-42 Panthers became avilable.

Would've been nice if there was a different research system where you didn't have to sacrafice your production.

Thanks for giving me an idea of how the reserch system works. I was totally ignorant on this one though i have two factories working on T34-85 reserch in a pbem game. I only did this cause i've many other factories producing T34-M43's.

How do you look a appearance date for types.
I use manual but this is out of date.

Hey Nick,

Mist may have another way, but one way to find out all the tank and plane data is to do Alt-R, which will show availability dates in the report created. The report is in the WIR directory - open it with Wordpad and both sides tanks and planes are shown at the bottom.

My experience: do not turn the factories at the very beginning, wait until their capacity grows large enough. Then you switch them so that you get say x1*(4), x2*(4),... for any factory. The numbers x depend on factory's capacity and the researched item's cost. In practice the research works more or less regularly if total x1+x2+... is not less than 20. Btw I always use it and find reasonable.

Loki and Rick! I've found that report file which can be created via alt-r command gives wrong and/or less accurate appearing dates. So, I look at appraring dates through editwir by opening saved games as scenarios. They seem to have the same format and appearing dates include are day/month/year instead of month/year in report.txt file.

This is already on the buglist.

Ok, I'll put this on the buglist too.

Thank you, Ed! :) Could you possibly also add there thing to summarize only one side's city information? Currently there is full German&Soviet city summary created and it is barely usefull. I guess it is not hard to fix.

This makes me remember my time in the army ten years ago. I was gunner in a Leopard 2 and we sung this song. http://ingeb.org/Lieder/obssturm.html

But I can't remember singing the 3rd verse. Not quite astounding :) .
Some recruits refused to sing the last verse. Yes, times have changed since the last war. Thank goodness.

Thanks Ricky and Mist for the info on that Alt-R file. Yes the appearance dates are out but still good to look at to clear up what is on the front exct.
