Appearing dates

Post by Mist »

What Leader/Factory/Equipment appearing date is correct? One in report.txt or one in scenario file? For example, why Manstein becomes available at spring'42 when he has 12 weeks delay in campaign'41 scenario file and should appear right after 14th September'41? Ed, Ricky? Help me please! I know it is in the buglist. But what is correct in WiR terms? Will Manstein appear at September? When PzIIIj will appear?

The scenario file should be the correct one, rather than the current report file. I don't remember the 1941 scenario having Manstein changed to turn 12, although it has been fixed in the version we are testing now. I will check this further tonight when I have access to the game. One possible issue on Manstein, if he was changed in the scenario but a pre-existing save game used to check it out, he will arrive at the originally scheduled time. Anyway, I will post tonight what I find.

Apearing dates for PzKpfw-IVG and H are wrong. Ausf G should appear in March of 1942 (when the nearly identical Ausf F2 appeared) and the Ausf H in March 1943 (when Ausf G's begun to be armed with the 75L48 gun).

In fact many availability dates look wrong now. It seems that authors creating the dates list often took into account moments when equipment first reached front units whereas we should mean the dates of production's start. Obviously it is not the same. I looked through history files and wrote a list of corrections.

On AFV's:

1. I never saw any reference to Marder appeared earlier than in April 1942. It was probably the 75-mm AT gun PaK-40 L/46 that introduced in January 42. First Marder II was produced in April 42 on chassis of Pz II armed by rebored Russian 76-mm gun PaK 36 and one MG. At the same time (April) Skoda built Marder III on chassis of Pz 38(t) with the same gun. Later both models were armed with German PaK 40 gun. So I shifted the Marder date to April and replaced Marder III by Pz IVf2 that appeared in March 1942 as up-gunned Pz IVe with L-43 gun (attack value 14).

2. Pz IVg (May 42) differs from f2 by slightly stronger armor, in late 42 it obtained better L-48 gun which together with additional armor turned it to Pz IVh in March 43.

3. Production of StuG IIIf armed by L-43 gun was started in March 42. In May 42 StuG IIIf/8 obtained newer gun, StuG IIIg was its up-gunned (L-48) up-armored version that entered production in November 42.

4. Serial production of Tigers began in August 42, so a few first tanks participated in unfortunate action near Leningrad in late August - early September.

5. First Panther prototypes were tested in summer of 42, serial production began on 11.01.43.

6. The true date for Nashorn is late February 43 (not July 43 as it is now in WIR), so it participated in Kursk battle in 655th Schwere PzJagAbt (Heavy TD Bn).

7. First Ferdinand was presented to Hitler on 19.03.43.

8. Production of Jagdpanthers began in January 44 in Braunschweig, in November another factory in Hannover joined it.

9. Hetzer was in fact Light TD with 2600 produced, whould probably replace StuGs. Available in April 44.

10. Jpz IV was first equipped with L-48 gun, just later (August 44) it obtained L-70 gun that responds attack 19 assigned in WIR.

11. Soviet heavy T-35 tank had initially only 30mm armor, after the Finnish war it was reinforced by additional 50mm frontal plates, so its defense value should be corrected.

On aircraft:

1. Date for FW-190 should be shifted to July 42 since there were no 190's in Russia until that moment.

2. Production of tank killer version of Hs-129B-2 armed with 2 MG, 2 20mm and 1 30mm cannons began in August 42, so first Hs-129 PzJager Staffel in SG-9 entered combat in Russia in September 42.

3. Date for Ju-87g : March 43. In fall of 44 it was replaced by FW-190g.

4. Obsolet TB-3 bomber was not in production by June 41, it is to be replaced by IL-4.

5. IL-2 should have cannon VYa value not less than 10 and bombload about 15.

6. In mid-war Romanian factory in Brasov converted to Bf-109g, so probably Mixed Ftr should be replaced by Bf-109g.

7. Production of Do-217 and He-177 was pretty limited due to material shortages, so I assigned them cost value 99 and factory production 8 and 5 appropriately.
