Tiger availability date

I am sure this has been discussed before, but anyway;
when does the Tiger appear in WiR? The manual says one date, Alt-R says another and neither looks correct to me...

Alt-R is always used over the manual. The manual is in the proprietary PDF format, and we don't have a PDF editor to update the manual, so its slowly becoming worthless.

As for the Tiger dates, well they've been argued over before, more than once, so its not possible for everyone to be happy with the dates now.

note:
prototypes of Tiger were tested in the end of April'42
production had begun in july'42
first action had happened in august-september'42 on Leningrad front near Mga(which ended up in unseccessfull engagement and capture of Tiger(s?) by Soviets due to poor terrain)
Availability date 13/9/42 which is shown in WiR seems to be a bit late but not too much

Now it's October 42 and I am happily producing a few Tigers every week. But I cannot assign them to units! Is there a reorganization due to make the transition from medium to heavy possible or am I missing something?
The Panzer Bn's that contains Tigers cannot be changed to anything other either.

Now it's October 42 and I am happily producing a few Tigers every week. But I cannot assign them to units! Is there a reorganization due to make the transition from medium to heavy possible or am I missing something?

The 501st battalion will show up shortly for you with Tigers in it. The 50x and SS Tiger battalions are the only ones that can hold the Tigers, plus a couple of SS Panzer brigades (Fuhrer Beigleit??? and FG). This is actually historical as Panzer divisions only contained the medium tanks inluding Panthers, while the Tigers were reserved for these special units.

If you examine TankType in editwir, you understand that there not tank type what will be changed to Tiger automatically. Only units, that have Tiger type before creating will be have Tiger. If you want you can change this behavior through editwir.
