What happens to WIR when 2by3 does their Ger-Russo game?

I've seen some posts about this and was just wondering.

Will Matrix still support this game? My gut says yes.

Opinions?

They had the chance to pick it up when they agreed with Gary's company to do UV and WitP, but they didn't. Beyond this we're just guessing.

WiR II will die instantly upon the release of WiR III. :)

At one time Matrix did say they were publishing it, and then pulled everything off the site about it, so either it is pending further talks or it was totally dropped due to failure to agree. Or maybe they just don't want to post anything on it yet. A lot of unknowns.

I'd say no Ed. Considering amount of bugs fixed in WiR II(dos based game) I think WiR III(windoze based game) will be much far from perfection in time of first release. Another reason for WiR to stay alive - it is free game which is more or less open for delevopement and improvement. Comercial games tend to be focused on external effects rather than historical presiseness. Look at panzer general. First one was very good game though it had specific downsides. And look now what happened in Panzer General III: great graphics, sounds, animations etc everything for good sales. But this game is a piece of crap to me. So LONG LIVE WIR II!!! :D

Most games have bugs in the beginning.

Not exactly, the source is available to only one person, who works a real job and can work on WiR only in his spare time. That isn't "open for development". Wir II has major problems, but Araud just doesn't have the time, and probably doesn't have the inclination, to make a full overhaul of the game.

Sure, but we aren't talking about the lightweight crap that part of the industry produces, we're talking about a Gary Grigsby game, and he's never let me down yet. Look at what is being done for WitP, an enormous amount of detail never before possible. He'll do the same thing for WiR III.
