Panzer Blitz/Leader Scineiros for East/West Front?

Post by vadersson »

Hi gang,

So my friend and I noticed that the campaign series uses similar unit sizes and time frames as the old AH games panzer Blitz and Panzer Leader. Has anyone written any scinerios using the situation cards from those two games? There are a couple old situations from those games I would love to play agian. (and have the compute solve the rule disputes my friend and I always have...)

Just checking,

EF/WF are platoon level units while PB/PL were larger...I think they were at least company strength if not battalion or regiment. It has been about 25 years since I've played PB/PL so I could be wrong (not the 1st time, either). I once did the first three scenerios of Squad leader for East Front. Wasn't my best work[8|]

PL is the same size as the campaign series (platoon size). PB is platoon size units for the Germans, but company size for the Russians. Check it out. I have both and have played for them for years. I set up a few of the sceanrios for PL using the campaign series several years ago. The sceanarios were small compared to the size of most scenarios created for the campaign series, but it is doable.

I coulda swore PB was larger... too many years (and LaBatts) ago.[:D] I'll take your word for it even though wikpedia says it's company level INFANTRY and squad (?) level tank units. It was still my first war game. It definately started a runaway train of game buying that has lasted 30+ years

ORIGINAL: cbelva

I have both and have played for them for years.

You'll then note Bob McNamara's Involvement in both.

He wanted the Talonsoft "Front" games to run exactly like Panzer Blitz/Panzer Leader as the later have far superior rules and mechanics when it comes to Infantry vs AFV and AFV Overrun - but as the story goes, was over ruled by Jim Rose, then Talonsoft Head.

As a result, Jim released his series of Front games that just don't "play right" imho when it comes to infantry attacking AFV's etc.

Had Bob won the day he'd have been responsible for a classic and probably would have seen Talonsoft live on.

(Another of Rose's legacies with the original East Front, was an absolutely appalling rule book. It took the release of East Front 2 to get that right).

What could have been....

Adam.

Wargamer.com has either three or four sets of scenarios made for EFII that are based on PB, don't know if they have any for PL, look for Ode to panzerblitz I, II and III, there may be a four, too.
