Special supply?
Special supply?
Hi!
With special supply I got reinforcement as well. Is it a bug, or just I did not notice it until now? I special supplied an ss panzer korps in 43 and the tiger bn attached to it had 10 more tigers after it (I have over 200 tigers in the pool).

I have haven't noticed this either. And I don't remember seeing any mention of this kind of behaviour before.Originally posted by Tom1939:

Did you look at the number of tanks in the statistics window of the bn (the actual number) or just by selecting the korps and looking at the numbers that appear (which, I believe are the "real" numbers, adjusted for readiness and experience, correct?). The latter would explain the "replacements", but if this is not the case then I guess we have just learned something new about this game.

I watched the real numbers in the bn. And I tried out, I think all panzer bn's get reinforcement like this (one's inside a panzer div as well) if you have enough panzers in the pool. You can exploit it by rail transefering the panzer bn around and special supply the units. You can make from a panzer bn with 5 tanks a panzer bn with 75 tanks in a turn. Experience drops though so it is not a real exploit. And if I think it is somewhat rational to be able to pumb up a bn if you wish at the cost of exp, if you have enough tanks. But I don't think it is intended. But with ss panzer bn's it is a slight exploit...
What's the differense between resupply and replace? I thought my units were somewhat refitted with new tanks and sqauds and so on when i used special supply. Does "Special supply" only increase the readiness level of a unit? But how the heck do I replace destroyed and damaged tanks then?

So once again I learn something new about this game from someone who has been paying attention.Originally posted by Tom1939:

Perhaps I should too, maybe then my game performance wouldn't be quite so abysmal

I'm not so sure. IMO it depends on how you interpret special supply. If you you just think of it as just fixing broken equipment, stacking extra supplies and reorganizing, then those tanks shouldn't get there, butOriginally posted by Tom1939:
You are right rundstedt. You get replacement automaticly if you have equipment in your pool. Special supply should *not* give equipment I think. I suspect this is a bug.
since extra supplies are already being shipped, the why not some replacement tanks. BTW. do the units get other types of replacements, squads, guns? If they don't then they should, just to be consistent. And also just to be consistent this behaviour should also affect other units too, or none at all.

No, sorry, I'm not studying in Lund, although I live in Malmö a few miles southwest of Lund. What did you study?Originally posted by Tom1939:

Is there anyone who knows when and in what amounts my tank losses are replaced during the game? Is it connected with the supply level of the specific unit?

Hmmm... Hungary, well never been there, but I do have a classmate whose parents come from Hungary. Aaah, I've heard wonderful stories about bathing in Lake Balaton.
But then again, the last German offensive took place near Lake Balaton in March 1945 if I remember correctly. Maybe you have some good stories from older relatives to tell?

Well, my grandfather was in the eastern front usually with the occupying troops. He was a very nice man, and did *not* like the war at all. The on story I remember was him, that he was in the command of a small group of soliders ordered to guard a small hill. Now my grandfather must have seen the strategic importance of the hill, so he did not even go near that hill... In the night the hill was completely destroyed by katyusa. So luckily he was not heroic, so here I am. He was a very wise man, he valued life. I don't think he ever killed someone in the war (or maybe just when he absolutely had too), or lead any of his man to heroic death.
Ok. At least to me this confirms it. It is indeed a feature.Originally posted by Tom1939:
Very good question. I tried it out with one of my few understrength division (it was a new ss cavarly) and it got squads and guns! (artillery and anti-tank, but I lack flak so I think that's why i did not get flak)
When you think about it a little it does make very much sense, and makes special supply more useful.
Every day you learn something new... how about that

I seem to recall at least one if not more very recent (this week even) threads about replacements that discussed this question. So I guess a quick look down the thread list should be sufficient to find these.Originally posted by Rundstedt:

In one of those threads I asked about the amounts of replacements, and didn't get a very specific answer so I guess that the exact details are unknown.
I think there is a special replacement phase in the end/start of the turn where the losses are replaced. I'm quite sure that this detail is in the manual, but I don't have access to it at the moment.

Ach. The small but ah so important difference between green and veteran troops.Originally posted by Tom1939:

Not the usual heroic/gore&glory story, but just as or perhaps even more informative about the realities of the war on the individual level.

I wonder what my grandfather did back then... Oh, yes, he was a "staff sergeant" (you know the kind with three stripes up and one down in American movies) in the Swedish army, waiting for the Germans to attack from Norway.
Fortunately, they didn't, but rumours say that Hitler did plan to invade Sweden at a couple occasions... Enough of that. What the heck were we talking about? Oh, supplies...

Sorry to go off thread, but I recall hearing somewhere that the Finnish and Hungarian (and Turkish) languages have quite a few similarities. Since we have quite a few Finns and a Hungarian on board, could someone please enlighten me? Is it like German and Dutch, for example? Thanks!

Another strange thing. Even if Finland "belonged" to Sweden for several hundred years, Swedes never understand what the heck those Finns are talking about. Now that's strange!
