Trade Example

Post by PadresFan104 »

For those of you picking apart the trade AI, I thought I'd share a "Blockbuster" 6 player trade that I just pulled off in my fictional association.

Towards the end of April I am already 6 games out of first and getting tired of my lack of offense. After two games against Pittsburgh, I decided I had to have their SS and 1B. Knowing I was strong in pitching, I started wheeling and dealing. I ended up giving them my #1 reliever and #3 starter and backup 1B for their starting SS, 1B and backup 1B. My pitching is going to suffer, but I should be able to put some more runs on the board, as I am currently 22 out of 24 in team offense. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

San Diego (me) trades:

- Jessie Stewart, 30 yr old RP, 10 st, 5 ve, 9 co, 6 en, 2 pot (2-2, 5.17 era in 11 appearances) $9.3m/yr
- Joseph Turner, 22 yr old SP, 8 st, 2 ve, 9 co, 9 en, 2 pot (up) (1-0, 4.76 era in 2 app (due to injury)) $5.5m/yr
- Mario Garret, 30 yr old 1B, 8 co, 7 po, 6 ey, 6 sp, 2 pot (.254, 2 HR, 8 RBI) $6.8m/yr

Pittsburgh (cpu) trades:

- Dion Fields, 30 yr old 1B, 8 co, 8 po, 8 ey, 3 sp, 4 pot (.320, 3 HR, 12 RBI) $6.8m/yr (lousy defense)
- Ronald Lewis, 29 yr old SS, 9 co, 3 po, 8 ey, 7 sp, 4 pot (.329, 1 HR, 7 RBI) $5.6m/yr (good defense)
- Jason Bates, 26 yr old 1B, 7 co, 7 po, 5 ey, 7 sp, 4 pot (.300, 0 HR, 0 RBI) $5.9/yr (great defense)

So now I have an upgrade offensively and defensively at SS, and I have an offense upgrade at 1B. I got Jason Bates as a late inning defensive replacement for Fields who is all yellow on defense. I also lowered my payroll by a few million in the process.

For the CPU, Pittsburgh needed some pitching, and they have Garret playing first base and a rookie who is all 6's across the board playing SS for them. I'll keep an eye on them and see if they make a trade for a better SS down the line.

Anyway, I know many people play with a 1-1 trade house rule, but I couldn't help myself!!!!

lol - trading can be addicting.  I think it is a potentially great part of the game.

I always like to see if the players I traded away become an important part of the other team.  Then I feel like I 'analyzed' the trade from the other team's perspective well.

OTOH, I hate when I see them floundering in AAA!  [:@]

Oh wow... check this out!

I had one game left to play with Pittsburgh after the trade.  It went into extra innings and I lost when my reliever gave up the game winning hit in the bottom of the 10th.  What's cool though is that I got to face the starting pitcher I just traded away!  And my #1 reliever!!  Classic stuff.  Here are the relevant stats:

Joseph Turner (PIT) 7 IP, 8 hits, 2 earned runs, 2 BB, 4 K, no decision
Jessie Stewart (PIT) 3 IP, 1 hit, no earned runs, 3 K, win  (grrrrr!!!!!)

Ronald Lewis (SD) 2-5, K, run scored
Dion Fields (SD) 1-4, BB, K

Pittsburgh wins this round!!!  The pitchers I traded away kept the players I traded for pretty well in check.  Crap...

That's why you wait and make the trade just before you (or they) leave town!

Yep... Even though I was on the losing end, it was fun to watch!

That's one of those trades where you don't feel you ripped off the AI, and that is comforting.

i have never played any baseball sim solo where trading with the computer is done well. that's why i really hope this game can get geared toward online league play where you can match wits with other players.
