AT Bns disappear?

Post by Barbos »

Maybe it's somewhat obvious, but I wonder when in mid-1943 all AT gun bns suddenly disappear. Is this OK? Do the guns return to pools?
Historically the Soviets effectively used their ATG regiments until the end of the war. On the other side in late war period Guderian tried to organize special AT divisions, but failed. Mellenthin writes about compact ATG groups used in 1944. Please explain why do our ATG bns vanish in mid-war, when number of tanks grows fast.

The short answer is I don't know. This is part of the game's original design, this wasn't added by the WIR project. Perhaps there just wasn't enough of these independent AT battalions left in '43 on, to represent in the game? On a practical point also, you do get the SPG and hvy tank regiments that can replace those AT battalions, which is definitely what I'd prefer anyway.

By late '44 the Soviet player already has the "problem" of having more divisions and regiments than can be used on the front line. Adding back the AT battalions just won't make any difference in the game, since the Soviet player will use the more useful SPG, hvy tank, and tank regiments instead of the AT battalions.

All AT regiments and battalions reformed to SpG regiment (with 21 Su-76) in Soviet and JPz battalion (with some amount of Marder) in German
