Off-board small arms fire?

Post by apd1004 »

I just had an interesting thing happen, and unfortunately I was unable to grab a screenshot of it for proof.

I'm playing as the German in the 1st scenario of the campaign, so you can picture the map as I describe what happened.

The platoon of PzIIIL's is crossing the road approaching the objective area on the right. The T70's there are all dead, and as far as I know there are no more Russian units left in that objective area since the panzers and 3 Spw 251's have not received any fire from, nor have they fired at any targets from that area for about a whole turn.

I'm watching the replay of the reaction phase and I notice some green small-arms tracer fire coming from the direct right of the panzers, from somewhere around the right edge of the map where the road runs off-map. The tracer fire doesn't really appear to be targeting a specific German unit, but instead appears to just be firing down the road toward the village way down on the left side of the map, where the German infantry is infiltrating the village.

I replay it again and zoom in on the source of the tracer fire, and much to my surprise it is actually coming from just off-map. No visible units or even a ? there for a possible unit location. There are 5 PzIIIL's sitting within a couple hundred meters of the source with a clear line of sight to the area, and none of the panzers appear to notice the fire. From what I've seen so far, I think the panzers would have reacted to the fire had there been a real unit there shooting at them.

It didn't happen again and since it kind of caught me off guard, I didn't get a save game of it either.

Is it a bug or is it like some sort of ambient background effect that doesn't actually do any harm?

Ok, thanks - I searched for any other posts on the bug and didn't find anything but I didn't look there.

Got it to happen again, and have a screenshot:

Yes, thanks - this was found and fixed in the upcoming update. It was a visual bug that causes no actual harm, but looks quite odd. It occurred in some cases when playing with limit infantry off and having infantry mounted.
