Looking for initial scenario tactics

Post by Tomus »

How do you guys start the scenarios?

Is it a case of sending up AWACS, running ASW patrols, active radars on etc...or wait and see how it pans out?

Personally, I think that it has very much to do with the orders in the scenario. If you are ordered on a covert mission, it doesn't pay to launch your aircraft and turn on your radar, now does it? [;)]

However, in general, I launch the Recon / AEW elements right away to give myself a general picture of the situation whenever possible. Even if I don't have dedicated AEW assets, I try to get the best picture possible.

Also, if available, I try to get a Jammer into the air to deny the enemy use of his radar assets.

If the scenario entails potential strikes by Backfires, I try to get some CAP out as far as I can in hopes of catching the bombers before they release.

Overall, much depends on the orders and Victory Conditions that you are given. [8D]

Agree with Herman.

Get your eyes up as soon as you can. Remember when you emit you're visable so make good choices in positions and emcons. Evaluate your threat axes and plan accordingly. Don't be afraid to use the report and database button on your unit status dialog.

Enjoy [:)]

Ive only played 3 scenarios so far (im well into my third) so my advice is not soundproof

Unless the mission is total and utter stealth, I spend my pause time setting up combat air patrols (passive) setting some form of AEW up to gain a picture (passive) and setup ASW to form a barrier from possible nearby subs (passive\active)

next I adjust all the formations of my ship groups, threat axis and initial destinations. It makes sense from my perspective not to let ships sit still if you can help it, get them on the move as soon as possible, dont sit around and wait to be attacked.

Once I have set this up I press start and continue the tasked mission until I recieve some contacts which I will then begin to prosecute.

But then thats the magic of Harpoon, on most occasions there is no right or wrong way to get things done, its a case of experimenting what works for you [:)]

No finer words of wisdom have been spoken. [:)]

And, if you find a "wrong" way of doing things, you can always re-start afterwards. [:D]

*Takes a bow* [:)]

Hmmm perhaps that would then be called the" *right* way in the *wrong* situation" to put a positive edge on it of course hehe.
