LW Korps, Mtn. Korps

Post by Mikser »

I've been wondering this, as I don't believe the manual mentions it...Does the game bestow any special abilities to, say, a Mtn. Korps containing only Mtn. Divisions? Or LW Korps containing Luftwaffe Divisions? Or are they just regular infantry Korps units, renamed to add to the suspension of disbelief?

I know mountain divisions get a bonus to readiness in mountain terrain, but I think its regardless of what Korps/Army they are in. I think its just a matter of hitorical accuracy.

Correct on all counts. The corps/army units are to represent actual groupings from the war, but they get no benefits, except the 5 plot ability for tank/panzer corps. Other abilities are based strictly on the division/battalion type unit.

Luftwaffe Divisions were actually a complete waste of men and equipment. You don't want any "special rules" for these units. They actually should never have been formed, but Goering being who he was, insisted on it.
Still playing PacWar (but no so much anymore)...

Unlike VG units, the LW units aren't created by the game IIRC, they are about 10 in the OOB. So, you can change them to something else if you prefer in the scenario file.

Yep. Just another Nazi tycoon thinking his private empire was not complete without a private Army... So the Luftwaffe got its own divisions. I belive the Hermann Göring Panzer Division was also a Luftwaffe division?

With all these private empires, one cannot but wonder what Hitlers succesion would have been like had Germany won the war? Would there have been a "diadochi war" like after Alexanders demise?

Unless the Army was very quick about ousting the NSDAP, I'd put my money on Himmler - he had the Waffen-SS (the strongest non-Heere military force) and the Gestapo. Göring is another strong candidate, with the Luftwaffe and its divisions, but he was also Police Minister for Prussia. And I guess the Army would rather have had Göring than Himmler as new Führer.
