Clash in Finland. Aztez (A) vs Sardaukar (J). CHS + NIK

Post by aztez »

Since the PBEM againts Nemo ended early I decieded to find a new opponent. I was looking for NIK 8.0 but Sardaukar wanted CHS + NIK modifications so I agreed.

Btw, I have started playing againts AI using NIK 8.0 and I have to say that Nikademus has done amazing job by the looks of things!!! [&o]

This game will be using CHS 2.07 + Nik Modifications.

I will be Allied side and Sardaukar will be Japan. (His first game as Japan btw)

We wohn't have many houserules since this game will semi-historical.

This feels good. Sardaukar has been following my games for ages via this forum. So, it is nice to finally have the chance to clash againts him. Another dream opponents would have been Pauk and Rob! [:D]

This propably wohn't be fast paced game since we agreed that IRL will dictate the pace. We will be using 2 day turns since we both like that tempo. [:)]

House rules:

1) Aden and Panama off limits. Indian invasion Ok but not in December 1941 nor January 1942.

2) deleted. Russia remains inactive. CHS has done good job here.

3) PDU = ON (No 2E bombers to 4E bombers both sides)

4) Reasonable amount of garrison required if China or Russia falls.

5) PP must be used to get troops out of China.

6) 1 Port assault on turn 1.

7) No shock + pursue assaults to be made by either side.

8) No overstacking of Atolls. (Troops and planes included)

...and in overall keep semi-histrorical taste to this game. Restraints to be used by both sides.

[8|] ME ?? .. i'm blushing

Seriously though if 2NDACR is kept busy at work i'd love a nikmod 8 game .. didn't even know he'd finished it .. we will have to toss a coin for allied side though [;)].. Actually im very very inexperienced as japan honestly ( only one pbem till mid jan 41 ! ) but its was a 'training tool' vs a new guy ( poor soul , i think he was expecting a 'better AI' he got hammered [;)]).. would never happen vs a vet ( not the sort that heal small animals ..[:D][:D])

good luck aztez

CHS i can more relate to , i have ?? version installed and its still confusing as hell for me [:D]

EDIT .. I was wondering if we would ever see 'the finnish civil war' excellent !
sorry for the spelling . English is my main language , I just can't type . and i'm too lazy to edit :)

Yeah. Definately you Rob. since I consider you to be very reliable and one darn good player.

Allthough my slots are now taken since Sardaukar took the challenge this afternoon! [8|][:(][:(]

I would love to add another PBEM but my wife would propably kill me IF I did so! [:(][:D][:D]

Hmpf. Lets see how fast this game goes. I mean I "might" be able to squeeze in just one more... (can't promise for it though 100% certainty)

As Pauk said damn that I'am not Rich.... [:D][:D][:D]

This will most likely be allied side only but that is not discussed yet.

I will pass your "command" to Sardaukar! [:)] He propably will be posting since he is not familiar with Japanese economy.

Yeah... Finnish Civil War indeed...!!! [;)][:D][:D][:D]

Scenario 160

"Experimental A2A variant: This variant has modified scenario data, especially for aircraft, in an attempt to reduce the "bloodiness" of air-to-air combat, as well as some other "experimental" changes. The purpose of this scenario variant is to allow testing of these changes in an in-game environment. Specifically, the following data changes are applied:
  • The starting experience values of all Allied pilots has been decreased by 10%, except for USN pilots.
  • The starting experience values of all USN and Japanese pilots has been decreased by 5%.
  • The Zero bonus has been removed (this is compensated for by the larger reduction in Allied pilot experience).
  • The durability values of all fighter aircraft, including float fighters, night fighters and fighter-bombers are increased by 60%.
  • The durability values of all other aircraft are increased by 40%.
  • The effect rating of all AA/DP weapons has been increased by 40%.
  • The maximum speed value range has been compressed by halving the difference between actual aircraft max speed and a centre point of 350 MPH.
  • The accuracy of all air launched torpedoes - Japanese and Allied - has been reduced by 25% (ship and sub launched torpedo accuracy is unchanged)."

I actually have been thinking and I think we will have this one as a joint AAR Thread unless Sardaukar wants to have otherway.

The scenario itself looks intresting. No Zero bonus but reduced allied pilot experience.

Hold off using scenario 160. I think there may be a mixup with the Zero factories in Japan - part of my removal of the Zero bonus. If it is the case, then the Japanese might have problems building Zeros! When I get the chance to verify this I will let you know.

Hmpf. Sardaukar said he had been playing with this scenario a longtime. I will pass the message to him. [:(]

Can you Andrew recommend some other CHS Scenario IF this one is "broken"?

While you are at it - ask him how the Japanese Zero aircraft pools are looking. Are they too large or too small? A6M2 and A6M3.

If there is a problem I will be able to fix it in a day or two, so you could wait until then. The other CHS scenarios are OK, however - I would play the Nik variant over the unmodded ones.

I will email him and ask him to check how do the Japanese Zero pools look. (I think it is a game vs AI)

We are definately going for NIK Mod variant.

Anyway, I think he will post his findings here when he has the time do so! [:)]

As an American, I need to know who lives farther north (Civil War stuff).
Northern player = Union forces
Southern Player = Confederate forces
Got to know which side to support. [:D][:D]

[:D][:D] ...I think I'am the Union since I think Sardaukar lives in Central/Southern part of Finland. Myself I do live in the west coast!!! Confederate should be Sardaukar than [;)]

We actually had an real "civil war" in Finland too in early 1900's. They have many names to that war but basically it was a civil war. (Quite bloody too it was) No chance of that happening anymore though! [:)]

I'am very pleased that Sardaukar finally decieded to get a PBEM going! I have been asking for this propably over an year or so! Naturally I'am going to kick his ass in this though! [:D][:D]

On a side note... I kind of felt bad to Rob and promised him a game too. He is a very nice fellow and if he accepts to be a Japan than we will square off using NIK mod 8.0 in that one. Hmpf, basically that gives me 4 PBEM's running so my Wife ain't going to be too pleased!!!! [:-][:-][:D][:D] [&:]  ...It is propably better that I don't tell her about that new adventure! That way it will remain much more peaceful! [:D]

So my PBEM's slots are now booked for at least a year or so. I will propably be Japanese side one day when one of my PBEM's ends but now I'am too busy to start learning those tricks! New job starting soon and the daughter is growing very fast and she is quite demanding tiny princess!

Yeps..I'm near Jyväskylä, so I guess I'm Confederacy...[:D] Army of North Virginia !! [8D]

If Andrew Brown is going to release v2.08 of Scen 160 soon, I think we can hold few days before starting. I have 51 A6M2s in pool from start and there is *big* A6M2 factory in... (won't say where..[:D]) But if AB sees there is something wrong with the scen, lets wait for couple of days. Gives me some time to check the scen against AI too and try to make some sense about Japanese production...[:'(] I like scen 160 a lot, played it until March 1943 as Allied vs IJN AI so far. Never played IJ...and never played PBEM..so this will be a challenge...[8D]

I just noticed IJ can produce 4-engined bomber called G5N, so I'd amend the 2E->4E rule a bit so I could change some units from 2E to 4E. Allies can change 2E to 4E if upgrade path is already set so in scenario. Like B-18 -> B17 or A-29 to B-24 etc.

I don't know why we should activate the Soviets, though... Soviet Union is in CHS nothing like it is in stock..I think they have way more troops from start than IJ has in China, Manchukuo and Korea combined !! And More air units than in those plus Home Islands !! [8D] Not going to attack SU in CHS scen.....[:'(] I think I have enough enemies without them next door !! [8D]

So, lets wait couple of days and seewhat Andrew Brown comes up to, or if I discover something strange.

I agree that we hold out a day or two so that Andrew can check things out!

I also looked the allied setup and yes let's leave Russia as it is. Allthough you should activate lets say 14 days before any major ground offensives if you feel brave enough to do that! [:D]

That upgrade paths as described are ok. It will be my pleasure to shoot those G5N's! [;)]

As far as I can tell, the problem is with the A6M3s, not the A6M2s (which are probably being overbuilt, in fact).

I should have a fix ready in a few days.

Thank you Andrew for that confirmation.

So, the turn looked good... I mean it loaded up just fine! [:D]

I guess there is no point of doing the 1st turn for allied side until Andrew gives us the green light! [:)]

I looked the allied positions and there were some ideas I got... so you better start packing your suitcases already and start learning the Swedish national anthem!!! [;)] ..."du gamla du fria...."
