How to Edit?

Post by GET TRANSPT »

Hi.
What tools do i need to access WIR data just to look at it?

Do I have to shell out big bucks for MS EXCEL, or can I look at the WIR data with my standard desktop tools and MS DOS?

I read editwr.txt; I've also noticed that are many alternate OOB's (like "Yogi planes") out there. How do I get to make a .TXT list of the units/cities/availability dates et al like Yogi's PLaneStats.txt?

When I do go to "Editwir", it looks like one can change anything in that black MS DOS screen. But where is the current data listed so I can look at it before (and after) I edit?

Do I need EXCEL for that?

I know nothing about editing programs save for using an antediluvian (and free!)MS DOS editor for Gary Grigsby's PACWAR from a Mr. Yeager I downloaded in '96. I'm concerned I may change unwittingly change WIR values using Editwir's MS DOS screen while simply looking for information.

I'm not really interested in tweaking, just peeking!

Thanks!

Editwir is your best bet for this, along with an in-game report feature. As long as you don't save the file back to the name of a scenario file used by the game, you cannot hurt the data that is in there when using editwir. Also, when in the game itself, you can do Alt-R which will create a text file of the data for that side's units and stuff, along with some equipment data for both sides. Do this for both sides and you will have pretty close to full data on both sides.
