CHS 2.08 changes

Post by Andrew Brown »

CHS 2.08 was released a couple of days ago and is available from the CHS web page. This is a belated list of the changes in CHS 2.08. The main problem with 2.07 was a major fault in the "experimental" scenarios - 159 and 160 - but several minor problems were also rectified. Here is the list of changes:

[ol]
[*]Kitachishima Fortress and North Chishima Fortress are duplicates. Kitachishima Fortress removed.
[*]Automatic HQ changes to the HQ the unit is already assigned to have been removed for the 6th and 7th Divisions AIF (Australian) and the 46th Division (Japanese). These reassignments are actually hangovers from the stock scenarios.
[*]The following Allied air units have been added, removed or modified as indicated:
Air Unit Nationality Aircraft Change
44th Bombardment Squadron US Army B-29 Superfortress Arrival date changed to 440501
Arrival location changed to Aden
387th Bombardment Squadron US Army P-40N Warhawk Arrival location changed to San Diego
388th Bombardment Squadron US Army P-40N Warhawk Arrival location changed to San Diego
No.9 Squadron RAAF Australian Walrus REMOVED
No.30 Squadron RAAF Australian Beaufighter VIF Arrival location changed to Sydney
No.34 Squadron RAAF Australian C-47 Dakota Arrival date changed to 430103
Arrival location changed to Adelaide
No.35 Squadron RAAF Australian C-47 Dakota Arrival date changed to 430701
Arrival location changed to Perth
No.36 Squadron RAAF Australian C-47 Dakota Arrival location changed to Melbourne
No.37 Squadron RAAF Australian C-60A Lodestar Arrival location changed to Melbourne
No.38 Squadron RAAF Australian C-47 Dakota Arrival date changed to 440522
Arrival location changed to Sydney
No.76 Squadron RAAF Australian Kittyhawk I Arrival date changed to 420314
Arrival location changed to Brisbane
No.77 Squadron RAAF Australian Kittyhawk I Arrival date changed to 420316
Arrival location changed to Perth
No.78 Squadron RAAF Australian Kittyhawk III Arrival location changed to Sydney
No.80 Squadron RAAF Australian Kittyhawk III Arrival location changed to Townsville
No.83 Squadron RAAF Australian Boomerang II Arrival location changed to Brisbane
No.84 Squadron RAAF Australian Boomerang II Arrival date changed to 430205
Arrival location changed to Sydney
No.86 Squadron RAAF Australian Kittyhawk I Arrival location changed to Adelaide
No.92 Squadron RAAF Australian Beaufighter Mk 21 Arrives at Brisbane on 450704
No.99 Squadron RAAF Australian Liberator VI Arrival location changed to Brisbane
No.6 Squadron RNZAF New Zealand PBY Catalina Arrival date changed to 430515
Arrival location changed to Suva
No.9 Squadron RNZAF New Zealand PBY Catalina Arrival date changed to 420719
Arrival location changed to Noumea
No.40 Squadron RNZAF New Zealand C-47 Dakota Arrives at Auckland on 430715
No.41 Squadron RNZAF New Zealand C-47 Dakota Arrives at Auckland on 440815
[*]Squadrons on the following US CVs that arrived equipped with SBD-3 have been changed to arrive with SBD-5: Essex, Bunker Hill, Intrepid, Hancock, Prince William, Casablanca.
[*]A large number of Japanese ship, ship class, airgroup and LCU names have had their spelling revised and/or corrected.
[*]Duplicate US Navy ship "Cold Brook" removed.
[*]The US Balao class submarines now arrive with SD radar. Also, the Balao class upgrade had duplicated SJ radar - fixed.
[*]Submarine air-search radar effectiveness has again been reduced slightly.
[*]For the experimental versions of CHS - scenarios 159 and 160 - the Japanese Zero factories for the A6M2, A6M3, A6M5 and A6M8 were not swapped along with the aircraft slots themselves, resulting in an overproduction of A6M2 and underproduction of A6M3. This has now been fixed.
[*]The AA effectiveness increase in the experimental versions of CHS, designed to compensate for increased aircraft durability, has been decreased slightly.
[*]Changes to aircraft combat/AA added to the "Nik Mod" version 8.0 update have been added to the "Nik Mod" style scenario variants - scenarios 157 and 158.
[*]Aden now has 100 Heavy Industry, as well as 500 more HI that are disabled, and 400 disabled oil centres. This means that initially the Allied player can ship resources to Aden to generate additional supplies. As the game progresses, if the disabled centres are rebuilt, more resources can be handled, and more oil will also be available to ship to India, where it can be used to generate further additional supplies as well (by being used to run Indian HI). This represents increasing availability of supplies, both transported from elsewhere and generated locally in India, as the war progresses.
[*]Batavia no longer has oil. The number of oil centres in Palembang and Balikpapan have been increased.
[/ol]

As always, if you see any problems with any of the scenarios, please let me know.

Hi Andrew,

first off, I'm playing CHS for the first time - wow! Lots and lots of changes and all of them good so far!

I do have a question though. For some reason (maybe I messed up the install?), I am not seeing ship graphics for the following ships - AK Taiping, AP President Harrison, AK Hai Lee and AK Churruca. This is for air attack with all and also naval combat with the Hai Lee.

I am playing patch 1.8, historical 7th and surprise on, scenario 157. The install order was your map 6.2, your extended map and then the 2.08 base mod.

As I say, this could just be a messed up install on my part, but nothing else seems to be wrong (other ship graphics are showing etc).

Sorry if this is something to do with the eejit at this keyboard,

Mefi

I assume you are using the latest base package (2d)? if so I am not sure what the problem is as the art for those ships looks OK to me. I will have to take a look in-game to see whether there is a problem.

Hi Andrew, yes I am using 2d. Just done a full reinstall and this time the ships are appearing. Install order was exactly the same but I did redownload the files (from exactly the same mirrors too). Wondering whether something has glitched in cyberspace? Certainly was odd that it only seemed to effect a handful of ships.

I haven't had time to look at it. But Perhaps you should ask Lemurs about that.

OK, I'll ask Mike.

One other thing. In the CHS 1.6 game I've got going I'm getting Alamosa class AKs in March 1943 but they did not start commisioning until late 1944. Has this been fixed in later versions?

First may I say a big thank you for all your Work on CHS.

Can you please tell me why you bring the Hurricane Mk IId/IV in to service in June 1942. All Information I have checked say this should be at least March 1943 for the Hurricane IId and December 1943 for Hurricane IVs. The Hurricane IIc however came into service in the Far east in June 1942. May i suggest that you change the data to reflect this?

Sorry. I can't answer your question. This is another question for Mike (Lemurs).

Andrew

Edit - I did find a few websites that claim that the IId entered service in 1942, but I don't pretend to be an expert on the Hurricane.

Why removing No.9 Squadron RAAF?

The aircraft from this squadron were used by RAN cruisers. The land component of the squadron was mostly for spares and training. It wasn't a full-strength squadron that was deployed into combat.

Thanks. I would gladly see in CHS documentation reasons why some units are being deleted.

Andrew, I notice that you've reduced flak a little in the experimental scenarios. Now I am even more concerned - as bombers already seem more effective. I know that anti-aircraft losses were running high, but has anything been done to reduce bomber effectiveness (somewhat high in stock and CHS - maybe not in NikMod)?

I also reduced the increase in bomber durability, from a 1.5 multiplier to 1.4. If that value results in bobers being too hard to kill then it could be reduced further. Note that NikMod still uses a 1.5 durability multiplier for bombers.

They all still appear in March 1943. I usually defer to Don when it comes to anything that floats. I will have to ask him about these ships, or you could ask him yourself [;)]

I checked a variety of online sources and all say late 44 at the earliest. 1.06 was the version that had a whack of corrupted entry dates for ships because one of the newer data guys was experiencing difficulty with the editor. I suspect that the version just prior to this, or the initial CHS had the dates correct.

Great job with CHS, it rocks the PBEM world. Unfortunately you can not play against the AI using it. The AI simply can not compute the new extended map and other great aspects of your mod.
