Panther Ausf G

Post by Laryngoscope »

Ok so K gave us the Tiger even though it is not a core campaign unit. But no Panthers. I really wanted to design some later scenarios with arguably the best tank of the war so what to do.

I had never modelled before so this is my first effort. It is relatively low polly ( ~ same as the PZ IIIJ in the game) and pretty close to the real G in most respects. Still needs a bit of work which I will do as time permits.

If anyone is good with textures and would like to help, please contact me and I will send you the 3dsmax file. Would like to get the texturing "style" as close to K's other vehicles as much as possible and I guess that will be hard to do as a newbie.

Fantastic work. I have no idea how to make a graphic from the model itself, but if there is a basic template, I'll make a skin for it.

Very, very cool, 'Scope!

Will the Soviet vehicles be more difficult?

They are less angular, with more curves on the hull and turret.

What ya think?

I see some modelling talent there, not too shabby for a "first try" [;)]

As for texturing, contact me in the dev forums or via email if nobody jumps in in the next days.

You would need to unwrap the UVs (providing that Laryngoscope has added UVs allready) of the model and make yourself a template. That is the problem with 3D modells, different models need different templates.

PoE,

Good News

Panther now (almost) fully textured and animated looks very very nice. I will post some screenies later. I have designed the textures so it is easy to add different camos etc without having to redo all the textures.

It has been a real labour of love for me, I have spent more time on the panther than on the editor for example. Although admittedly for the modelling I had to learn everything from scratch including how to use Max and PS.

Bad News

Koios used Max 7, I used Max 8 - No talky talky! Unless I can get to use somehow the latest Polytrans exporter (4.3) there will be no practical way to get the model into the game. There will be no christmas [:@]

Ok as promised here are some of the latest renders. I did each one in a different camo to show how easy it is to change it. It is still a work in progress. Much of it I am not happy with and will change. Some of it is ok.

Enjoy.

Keep pressure on K to get Max 8 so you guys can enjoy this in the game.

P.S One last thing. Given the detail it will need more than a geforce2 to push a few of these babies around, its about 30% more expensive than the current vehicles. But oh so worth it [:D]

P.P.S Don't worry about the 'squares' on round things. That all goes away once it is finished.
