STALINGRAD WEBSITE- AND TOURS

Post by Muzrub »

Great site check her out!

You can even organise tours as well......

http://www.stalingrad-info.com

One of the lads from the feldgrau forum went on one such tour.

http://www.feldgrau.com/index.html

I was there with a military history tour in 1998 and we went through the battlefield with the guy who took the book author around I read the book too). This guy is the only authorized city employee who can dig in the battlefields, but it would be difficult to stop anyone else.

As for the battlefields, yes, they are strewn with artifacts. I brought home a large damaged German shell, loads of rounds, field kitchen, morter tails, etc. You could have picked up bones, teeth, etc, but i thought that might be bad karma.

The locals sell loads of German id tags, baynets, helmets, etc. Prices are low but the stuff is all the same. The guide claimed to have found close to mint SS daggers, Knights crosses, etc, but he did not show them.

We are heading back in July; doubt it will have changed much.

If anyone wants to give me some cash for a trip with them to Stalingrad I am only to willing to be your travel companion- I'll even shine your shoes each day (but thats as far I go!)

I hope its still there when I finally get a chance to go.
Harmlessly passing your time in the grassland away;
Only dimly aware of a certain unease in the air.
You better watch out,
There may be dogs about
I've looked over Iraq, and i have seen
Things are not what they seem.

Hm I´ve heard the mayor of Volgograd discusses if the city should be renamed Stalingrad again for tourism-reasons.

He has a point.
The Western world knows the city as Stalingrad why not take advantage of its famous name.

It would probably protect more sites as well if they believed they could mke money out of presevation.

I think having a city named after Stalin really sucks.

If it was renamed it would not be to Stalin benefit.
I would probably reopen the debate on how much of PRICK he really was and Hitler for that matter too.
But it would place the attention back on the troops and civilians.

Check this out:

Look at how today's Russian Communist Party leader refers to Stalin's crimes: "There were mistakes, there were violations of law". Talk about your classic understatement, considering the same Communist Party, when it was in power in 1961, denounced Stalin and his crimes, and labeled (correctly) his rule as a dictatorship.
