RE: OT: Ukrainian crisis

<t> Putting aside emotional analogy or idealization, international politics is about power and interest. Ukraine(at least the eastern part) is Russia's soft belly. No Russian politician in power would let it slip into western sphere of influence without some resemblance of action. From another side ...

RE: Command HQ prep

I think you may misunderstood.I'm not talking about stacking bonus from multiple Command HQs. I mean whether a Command HQ need prepare for an enemey base first(pass the prep check) to grant the additional 90% assault bonus above the bonus from Corp/Army HQ.

Major ships(CV,BB,or including CA) surely worth the PPs to get rid of abysmal leaders. I don't want ships sent for important battles are commanded by amateurs.

RE: Travel Time From Balboa To Main Map

Although a bit off topic, anybody notice the 15 hexes difference between Balboa and Cristolbal? When calculating distance of TF movement, it's a whooping 15 hexes difference if TF depart from the closer side of the Panama Canal(on map they are just 1 hex away from each other).

RE: tender rearm cost question

<t> yes load tenders with supply first, apparently a empty tender can't rearm anything. Apart from supply, tenders also have limit OPs per day, all rearming action consume certain amount of OPs. So you can't rearm a whole fleet with a single tender in a single day even if carrying unlimited supply ...

RE: tender rearm cost question

The cargo capacity of the biggest AE/AKE is about 6K, and the rearm cost of a single 16in naval gun is about 4-5k. So I think it's somewhat self-explanatory. If the cumulative cost is looked, we won't have that many tenders to do the job.[:D]

Strait Between Honshu and Kyushu

The strait between Honshu and Kyushu is displayed as a white hexside(not river's purple). Does it trigger a shock attack to cross? Common sense tells me that a strait is wider than a river so it should incur the penalty if not harsher, but how does the game engine handle it?

RE: What good are P-38s (the airplane, not the can opener)?

<t> I think P38 is only suitable for sweeper's role. It has speed and altitude edge but the low climb rate and maintainace difficulty hamper their effectiveness in CAP mission. It is well said that in AE any airframe performing escorts simply turns into flying barn with a cow in the cockpit. The ...

<t> I guess there are two different styles of convoy composition as Allies.<br/>

Big convy like 100 ships, well escorted by major combat ships. They need time to gather and organise, less threatened by enemy subs and surface raiders, but a juicy target for KB. <br/>

I heard that using the "remain on station" would hamper the combat effectiveness of submarines, is it true? what's the exact consequence of remain on station? Detection Level stop to drop? less possible to launch an attack?

TF speed

<t> It is well known that there is a "threshhold" of TF speed that 1 knot difference of speed results a whole hex. Ex. A cruising speed of 10 knot is the requirement for 3 hex/per 12h, and 14 is for 4 hex/per 12h. <br/>

The question is: does it matter to mix ships whose cruising speed is in ...

RE: Divisions under Air HQ, Gamey or not?

Thanks guys. I've checked it, IJ could also use this trick to release restricted divisions from China theatre. So it's up to players to decide whether there should be a house rule, regarding what kind of taste suits them best, historical semblance or gaming probabilities.

Divisions under Air HQ, Gamey or not?

There are some US Army divisions originally under West Coast(R) can be transfer to unrestricted Air HQs(like XI Bombers Command) with small PP cost. Is this considered gamey? I think it makes no sense to have Air HQs commanding several Army divisions for combat purpose IRL.
