If I install this update and my game partners do not, will it affect playability? or will they have to install it also?

It's a seasonal turn base. the whole campaign consists of 22 turns but you can turn off auto victory so it takes longer. It really is a great game

I had not downloaded the proper patch but I've got it figured out now and we are playing successfully.
