Re: How good is the AI?

RTW3 is based on the Steam & Iron engine which IMO has the best AI that I have seen in 40 years of computer wargaming. Naval warfare by it's 2D nature and usual lack of terrain is somewhat easier to program. The AI is very adept at maintaining optimal ranges depending on gun type and ship speed, and ...

Be sure to import the scenario data files as these editors likely contain edits I have made. Make a backup of the original .DAT files too.

Also note that ...

RE: Assigning Hills and Mountains

<t> The type terrain should not be determined by elevation alone, but by the actual change in elevation of terrain within the hex. Far too many map makers assume that high elevation means rough or mountainous terrain. Not true at all. Some of these have become engrained in wargames, like the ...

You are correct in questioning the lack of towns on this map. This is my old stomping grounds when I was stationed in Wuerzburg in the mid-1980s, and this map does not reflect the actual terrain (I still have my 1:50,000 topos of the area). Oddly enough, based on the map ...

RE: Sneak Peeks, Coming Attractions, Works-In-Progress

If this can be tied to force correlation, losses/kills, etc it might be possible to better replicate human behavior on the battlefield. In any case it will be of great help in designing more realistic and replayable scenarios for those who understand how to use it.

<t> Don't dump them! They have value. What that is depends on the game, condition and market. Obviously unpunched games are worth more. The 3W stuff is less sought after. Apart from BGG there is also a FB group for selling this stuff. And eBay of course. All depends on how much time and effort you ...

Interesting that the AI is not using it's naval bombardment against you. Elmer is not always quick on his feet, but he normally never hesitates to bombard...
