Comparisons... design intent

<t> Hi folks. I'm trying to get a feel for how this game compares - not qualitatively, but from a design intent perspective - to other games of similar scale. For example, Grigsby's War in the Pacific AE and War in the East/West, or Paradox's Hearts of Iron 4?<br/>

RE: Swap Units

OK thanks. I would consider this a "design oversight" (meaning no disrespect), so I would have no problem hacking a save file to accomplish what I want. Is that possible? If so which file should I be looking at?

Swap Units

<t> ACK! I've been playing this game (one iteration or another) for over 20 years, and I can't remember how to change unit types (eg, swap ant-tank for infantry) between scenarios? I'm sure I used to be able to do this. Did something change or am I just blind and can't find the option?<br/>

The short of it is that its not a global power projection platform like a US carrier is supposed to be. It is at best a regional power projection platform that has to be part of a larger integrated plan.

Actually JD, from everything I've seen the Block IV has "real time target recognition" which I presume is some sort of EO/IR sensor, as it's billed as being capable of striking a mobile target. It may require an operator to designate the ...

RE: USN Uses Tomahawk Block IV as ASUW missile

<t> Not sure how effective this would be. It does have long range, but it's slow (subsonic), has no defense evasion capability (that I'm aware of), no target recognition/discrimination capability (again, that I'm aware of), and requires a spotter to hit a moving target. I can see this thing being ...

RE: navy times article.. considering different AAW tactics at sea

<t> I suppose. I wasn't so much concerned with the number of missiles available, but with the ability of a task group to track and engage many targets that quickly. Can, say, 3 state of the art ships (eg, Burkes) track and shoot at (lets just go with) 50 vampires in 2 minutes, allowing for ...

RE: navy times article.. considering different AAW tactics at sea

Wow. That's less than 2 minutes to engage and destroy what might be dozens (potentially hundreds?) of vampires. Not sure I'd like to try that without some sort of advanced CIWS for backup.

Interesting that you should mention possible expansions. I was thinking the same thing... after one quick play-through, I was left with nothing else to do. Except maybe to see if I could do it quicker. But to be honest, I'm not interested in scores or (external) competition ...

RE: F-35C first carrier landing

<t> That is interesting. But I was referring to development costs. Dev costs can be spread out over the life of a program production run so that, all other things being equal (and I know they're not), the more you build the lower the unit cost. However, the development cost is still the same. It ...

I'm sure you're absolutely correct about normal operational use and parameters. We've had a similar discussion before with regard to the max range of the Iowa main guns... and I think the same argument applies here. The problem that I, and apparently others as well, have ...
