If you really want to increase John's pucker factor, light up the islands around and bases on Kyushu with recon and Corsair sweeps as you move North. His biggest fear would be an early landing on the home islands. He may draw back aircraft that he is currently using in China.

One thing to remember is that a port (size 1-3) refers to the size of the port facilities not the size of the anchorage. Ulithi comes to mind from the RL where the Allies anchored hundreds of ships there but the actual port facilities were meager at best.

I will take a stab and say that it was just a case of a single small strike and the air commander did not want all the CAP committed to that one strike. Think of Midway when the entire Japanese CAP was pulled down chasing TBDs just when the SBDs came in.

Snowmegeddon 2 update - 9 inches of snow with sleet and freezing rain to come over the afternoon and evening. Only form of transportation that should be on the road.

the top is a 3"X13"X8' solid oak with a fancy trim added so that it would match the stools (wife 1.0 insisted on the trim). I did have to attach it to the floor since it was so top heavy.
