Re: GBU-57 research analysis for the game

What do you dislike about the way satellites are represented?

My biggest issue with satellites is the lack of an adequate representation of the processing, exploitation and dissemination (PED) process. That sometimes leads to unrealistically fast availability of the data. Unfortunately, when it ...

Re: GBU-57 research analysis for the game

I guess. I'm always cautious about using LUA to influence player units. It's fine when it's in line with the player's desires, but weird things happen when it's not, leading to frustrating gameplay. Because of that, it's usually best to just not do it. The golden rule of scenario design, in my mind ...

Re: GBU-57 research analysis for the game

Yes, the problem is that they make lot of assumptions in the various planning tools they have available. I have mixed thoughts about that. What I don't like is very large scenarios. If you're forced to run it "hands off" in order to coordinate forces, it's probably time to scope things down. You ...

Re: GBU-57 research analysis for the game

Yeah... striking hardened deeply buried targets (HDBTs) is a little bit of voodoo. That script essentially functions to jack up the ordnance requirement to strike a given target. You might use it to do something with it like strike the blast doors on a tunnel (dbid #915) then chuck a bomb in the ...

Re: Is the RCS level of stealth fighters reasonable in the game?

The problem is that the actual values are highly classified. Unless you have some evidence to support your opinion, it's really hard to say what they might be. The guys do their best. Unless you're supplying a frequency and polarization dependent 4*PI steradian bugsplat, any values anyone might pick ...

In the attached article it is stated that they do indeed have ASBM.
The observation of fakes does not preclude the existence of real weapons. It does suggest there exist decoys, however.

Isolating a C3 Bunker

Communications disruption is enabled. I created a series of LUA scripts to destroy the comm systems of a C3 bunker whenever I destroyed a nearby antenna. By destroying the nearby antennas with GBU-54s I was able to destroy in turn the MF, HF, LF and SATCOM in the C3 Bunker.

The remaining comms at ...

Re: 3D view: Which approach do you prefer?

I prefer the second option. I think it offers a greater awareness and understanding of what's actually happening in the game and better playability. Truth be told, even though I have 3D view, I rarely actually use it in the game because it's of such limited utility. From the perspective of game play ...

Targets Under Targets

Sometimes facilities are buried. Sometimes facilities are buried UNDER other facilities. For example, one might bury a C3 bunker underneath a SATCOM facility. It might or might not be desirable to strike the surface target, but regardless, you care enough about the thing underneath that it's worth ...

Re: Using MALD-J or SPEAR-EW best practices discussion

I usually use these off-axis to pull away assets from the target away from the attack or mixed in with the attack. I always manually control these assets and do BOL-Attacks with them. I noticed recently the SPEAR-EW is able to actually target units, and it seems they attempt to jam frequencies ...

This morning, I conducted some testing to analyze the detection capabilities of different radars against an F-16A with and without some EW aircrafts

This is very cool. You should ...

Re: Jammer Effective Range

What's a good rule of thumb for determining how far OECM Jammers can be effective in jamming?

There isn't really one. Jamming power goes as 1/R^2. Radar power goes as 1/R^4. The rest depends on the situation. The distance from the jamming target to the jammer is one piece of the puzzle. The ...

You think picking out the locations and characteristics of jamming emitters and listing them on the screen will tell you something?

Re: RE: jamming?

I wouldn't mind a simple approach, either, as long as you knew that the systems were actually having some effect. Not knowing enough about EW, it would seem that a jamming platform's effectiveness would dissipate the further that the jammer was from unit being jammed. But, the game limits you to ...

Re: RE: jamming?

I know this is very simplistic but I play another game and they model jamming with a simple 1-5 scale. 1 being light jamming to 5 being completely jammed. They then model ECCM and burn through affects with a simple minus number.

That is SUPER simplistic. It also doesn't capture a lot of the ...

Re: RE: jamming?

To simplify the conversation using some random numbers, if an attacking unit can see its target at 60 miles without the defending unit jamming, but he can't see it until 40 miles away with the unit jamming. Forget the numbers, I'm just trying to put it into perspective. So, the jamming reduces the ...

Re: Why doesn't the USA build a better AMRAAM?

Which begs the question...why did the vaunted USA military-industrial complex build such a crappy missile? I presume building a missile with more fuel can be done, because other nations have done so.
