Oil

<t> Hey guys. Game looks good, but what about oil (production and unit supply)? I can't seem to find much on this topic and oil production and supply were historically important. Is oil simulated at all in this game and, if so, how does it specifically impact units? For example, will armored ...

<t> "Centuur"<br/>

Very helpful feedback.<br/>
<br/>
I used to work in the computer games industry "back in the day." If anyone can remember the long defunct Looking Glass Technologies, which became Looking Glass Studios ("System Shock" and can you civilian aviation simulation enthusiasts ...

RE: Safe to Finally Play this Epic Game?

<t> By "safe" (great pic and movie, BTW), I think most can read between the lines:<br/>
<br/>
Am I going to get dozens and dozens of hours into this only to have it crash and burn when I go to proceed to the next (Axis or Allied) turn?<br/>
<br/>
And yes, I have very limited experience playing ...

Safe to Finally Play this Epic Game?

<t> Folks,<br/>
<br/>
I was one of the first people who purchased the full version of this game with the beautiful manuals. I waited literally 2 years after hearing all of the horror stories about show stoppers, etc. Simple question: Two years later, is it finally "safe" to play this epic game ...

Hot Seat Mode

<t> Developers, <br/>
<br/>
I am thinking of purchasing this fine game and its Torch add-on.<br/>
<br/>
Two questions:<br/>
<br/>
Can you play in hot seat mode at the same computer (one human as the Axis and the other human as the Allies)? Or must you play against the AI?<br/>
<br/>
What do ...

Importing Options in the Editor

<t> Does the ATG Editor allow you to import a map from an existing scenario into a new creation? There are several import options present (e.g., subformation types, item types, etc.), but I cannot find anything that will enable me to import a map. I am trying to grab one of the large maps of the ...

RE: Stacking

<t> OK, sounds good. <br/>
<br/>
Thanks for the timely feedback, gentlemen. I appreciate your assistance. I figured we had a typo there. I am using the manual to try to pick my way through all of the basics of the game.<br/>
<br/>
And keep up the great work, Vic. There is an extraordinary amount ...

RE: Stacking

<t> As a follow-up:<br/>
<br/>
OK, I found the "Crowding" paragraph on page 56 of the manual, which seems to explain the combat effects. <br/>
<br/>
Back to the original point: So it sounds like you can move as many units as you wish into a hex, despite what page 43 states? As long as the unit ...

Stacking

<t> Hi everyone. New to this very promising game.<br/>
<br/>
Running the latest patched version (1.15).<br/>
<br/>
Game manual on page 43 presently states:<br/>
<br/>
"Stk -Stack points of the unit. The amount of Stack Points a subformation contributes to the Stack Value of a hex. Once this ...

<r> <QUOTE><s>[quote]</s>ORIGINAL: Marc Schwanebeck<br/>

Finally, IMHO the second greatest problem with AI development is us. There's simply not enough of a selling point when a game has a better than average AI. If it were, Panther games and SSG would outsell everything else by Matrix 10:1 ...

RE: AI Development and Our Hobby

<t> No AI? I was unaware. Now that's interesting. Most dev firms wouldn't even consider traveling down that bumpy road, due to the presumed negative impact on sales in forcing one to exclusively go the MP/PBEM/Hot Seat route.<br/>
<br/>
So scrap the AI and put all one's emphasis on a terrific UI ...

RE: AI Development and Our Hobby

<t> Great to see the game's developers responding to posts here.<br/>
<br/>
Excellent point. The AI has to be game-specific. That means solid sales must drive continuing investment in that one product via point releases and, later on, sequels, in order to advance the AI. I wish you guys very ...

RE: AI Development and Our Hobby

<t> I haven't tried the Better AI mod yet for Civ IV, but I will certainly look into it. Of course, it's not a wargame in the classic sense, but I am a fan of the series dating back to the original. I enjoy taking a break from some of the more realistic/historical games to do the "beer and pretzels ...

RE: AI Development and Our Hobby

You're right. Editors can make a difference. For example, I've used the "Hearts of Iron: Doomsday" editor extensively and incorporated some AI mods. This combination has certainly improved gameplay, but we're not there yet...

AI Development and Our Hobby

<t> Guys,<br/>
<br/>
I've been looking over several of the posts and I think it's time for everyone to face the music: It's a real SOB to create a really good AI opponent for these types of strategy games. Consequently, it sounds like we are literally years (if not decades) away from a developer ...
