RE: Additional Chinese cities option

For what it is worth, I seem to remember that in standard WIF FE, Japan would conquer perhaps 2 - 3 Chinese cities before the US was in the war. Three was doing quite well, I think.

Now how would that correlate to the new map?

<t> On the issue of a purportedly over-strong France: Picture the French player unfamiliar with the rules, more interested in whatever food and drink are on the go than in the game, slightly drunk, and very distracted. Then picture him (or her, although I've yet to meet a woman-WIFer) rolling ...

Don't include historical sunken ships, or battles, or, need I say it, 'easter eggs': each game of WIF is a new war which creates new history. Now, a map that could be annotated during game play to record ...

RE: AI for MWiF - Germany - Tactical Thinking

Ah - a point about German AA. By '42 - 43' there is often a bit of a queue of German units waiting for rail transport to the fronts. At the very least, new built AA can serve temporarily in factories vulnerable to strategic bombing while waiting for empty trains.

RE: AI for MWiF - Germany - Tactical Thinking

One place German AA can be effective is in the midst of the Ruhr valley - one 88 can, as I recall, cover the three main factory hexes, and makes a nice supplement to, although not replacement for, fighter cover.

RE: Norway

I guess it would be arguable that the real war decision to invade Norway was perhaps a strategic error insofar as the resources could have been better used elsewhere, and that the game simply establishes the same situation.

RE: Norway

We saw the German invasion in one of our last games. They didn't take excessive casualties, and lots of fun was had by all, but it didn't lead to much strategically for a hard-pressed Germany. Perhaps if the Allies run a convoy to Russia it makes a difference?

RE: AI for MWiF - Germany - Tactical Thinking

A point for the AI - and us - to consider regarding the use of German submarines; should they concentrate in wolfpacks in areas of high convoy concentration, or spread out to pick on less defended areas and maximize the number of search rolls?

<r> <QUOTE><s>[quote]</s>Chengkiang is a Chinese provence/state - as indicated by font color and size. Patrice thought about putting borders for them but the final decision was that since they didn't affect game play, we wouldn't. The names are just for information/reference.

RE: food for thought: china set up for Day of Infamy

<t> I'm puzzled - what is Chengkiang? A region name? Is the salient you refer to us the Chinese territory that extends to the coast? Sorry to be dense. Looks like a tempting spot to interfere with Japanese rail supply, but probably best left empty, I would guess<br/>

Won't the Japanese attack from the north towards the resource hex north of Hengyang? That would seem to be an achievable objective even for this scenario. They might well be willing to let Swatow and Amoy go if they can take it.

RE: AI for MWiF - Germany - INNER STRATEGIES WITHIN GRAND STRATEGY

<t> Agreed - Pago Pago indeed. The games I've played in have never used victory points - it is usually pretty clear who is winning by the time one side throws in the towel. In fact the problem is to keep the side that knows they are losing in the game long enough to let the other side have their ...

RE: AI for MWiF - Japan

<t> Japan can also be a brutally frustrating country to play - timing is critical, and an early mistake or run of bad luck (or stroke of genius by the enemy) can unhinge a whole game, leaving you little option but to establish your perimeter and then just sit it out as America grinds its way towards ...

RE: AI (general): location v. destruction of enemy

One other possibility for the AI to consider when flying air missions (I don't think it has been mentioned...):

Fly two air missions into areas with only one FTR providing cover, especially useful for strategic bombing, or a combination of strategic bombing and port attack.

RE: Bodyarmor for the soft underbelly, a option for good Italian AI?

<r> <QUOTE><s>[quote]</s>to build or not to build an Italian CV is a glass half-full or glass half-empty question. I like to have one to help the Japanese defend the seaward approaches to the Middle East, with only Suez in Axis hands and Gibraltar sealed off as much as possible by land-based air. An ...
