Re: File->Save Unit As... not working

Honestly, I'm giving up. Any game that works this poorly straight out of the box is not something I want to get involved with. I am a software engineer by day and have been playing TOAW since it came out (1980's? 90s?) so I feel that I am qualified to do this. I paid full price, it doesn't work and ...

Re: File->Save Unit As... not working

I cannot get that .unt to load!! It says OK then never loads the unit.

PS my recycle bin is full of the .unt files I've been trying to save in previous testing.

Re: File->Save Unit As... not working

So, after much reading and testing, I have concluded that "Save Unit As.." does NOT work properly and hasn't since 4.0.0.11. Some combination of Opening / Playing / Saving scenarios sets the default unit save directory to something usable but I have not been able to find that combination yet. And 4 ...

Re: File->Save Unit As... not working

OK, this is weird. The .unt files I am looking for are showing as "Recent files" in File Explore. There are shortcuts to my missing .unt files in AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent Items\. These short cuts point to the location where I was trying to save the .unt files but those files are ...

Re: File->Save Unit As... not working

I tried installing TOAW on my windows 11 laptop. Still broken.
Re-downloaded both TheOperationalArtofWar4-SetupRelease-v4.1.0.20.zip and TheOperationalArtofWar4-UpdateComp-v4.1.0.40.zip from Matrix games website and reinstalled on the laptop. Still can not save .unt.

I assume other people are using ...

Re: File->Save Unit As... not working

My initial setup was a windows 11 virtual machine. I worked with that setup for a few days before I tried to save a .unt. Then the file would save but it would mess up the path. Where I picked C:\Games\TOAW-IV\MyScenerios for the location and MyPanzerDiv.unt for file name it actually saved C:\Games ...

File->Save Unit As... not working

When I try to save a unit it does not save the unit :-( The "Save Unit" dialog comes up, the file name is set to the unit's name .unt and the folder is where I loaded the last scenerio. Everything looks fine but when I click Save the windows closes with no error but no file is anywhere on my hard ...

RE: Multi Dimensional Scenario Available, Would You Like To Try It?

I see that in this scenerio the starting Control and Production points are reduced to maximize the effect of Kill points. How did you modify the Control points?

Changing LCU's HQ

<t> I've always been annoyed with Land Combat Units auto-magically changing their HQ on me. For example, I'll have some US division happily assigned to "Central Pacific" then it will change its HQ to (say) 6th army. Sometimes I change its HQ back and it stays there but other times it will just auto ...

RE: Wrong TF Mission # in editor??????

<t> Rich,<br/>
You are definitely not imagining this. I play with the editor open all the time and am constantly checking those values. I haven't figured out the pattern but it feels like more enemies around make them chicken out faster and get the "wrong" mission number. Once that number is "wrong ...

PS: this would be less of a problem if we could just select the TF number when its created. I've always hated that about the game.

RE: Wrong Flak for TF 56

<t> That's about what I do too. Where I do use place holder TFs I put then under low activity HQs like 4th Army and CMF. Those HQs don't have much use for their prep points anyway. As I understand it that means they shouldn't compete for prep points with "active" task forces under 3rd fleet, 5th ...

RE: Wrong Flak for TF 56

<r> Just ran a test at high detail and delay and it does use the wrong value. After all these years playing this I must never have used high/high. Wow, it is S... L... O... W... <E>:-)</E> I think a whole game like that would take longer than the real war!!!!! Almost as long as WITP!<br/>

Wrong Flak for TF 56

Allied Task Force 56 always shows the wrong flak value. Its always lower than it should be and it changes every time you look at it (try "G" then esc then "G"). Does anyone know if this is just a display problem or is that TF really using the lower value in combat?

RE: Wrong TF Mission # in editor??????

<r> That's too bad but I always figured it was something like that. I do delete and recreate the TF or fix the value in your editor - both work but its still a pain <E>:(</E><br/>

Wrong TF Mission # in editor??????

<t> I'm using Rich Dionne's Excel PacWar Editor and I'm noticing that some TF Mission values get screwed up. When I go to the TF tab I see, say, a Transport task force with a Mission value of 55 when it should be 5. In the game the task forces with the bogus values don't behave correctly. The ...

RE: PGN vs BMP Unit Counters

Thanks Ralph,

That's about what I figured.

BTW: Great job on the new release! I'm a software guy and can appreciate just how much effort you've put in and just how hard it is to get that much free time.

PGN vs BMP Unit Counters

<t> I've just started using the new beta and am wondering about the new .PGN format for unit counters. I frequently use my own set of BMP files that are recolored to something I like. Should I recolor the .PGN's or should I just keep using my old bitmaps? What advantages are there to .PGN verses ...
