RE: Alternative tactic

<t> In the companion game released about the same time, Carrier Strike (by Gary Griggsby), you get a more tactical game. You still cannot change the aircraft content on the various aircraft carriers. However, you can send up your unarmed DB and TB as CAP. I found a good US tactic in the first battle ...

RE: CVE and Wildcats

<t> If we are talking about the relative aircraft storage space on an aircraft carrier, there is something you might not know. The standard CVE was not much smaller than the (former light cruiser) CVL. In fact, it was slightly shorter but had a broader beam. Further, they didn't put in the high ...

I definitely think the Hellcat shows up too late, you get a couple CVE's and Essex with Hellcats long before F6F's show up in production...so where'd the air groups come from? Magical Hellcat Land? (Where is it I wanna go there!!) <SM sm="crazy ...

History is full of examples of people who have done what they have been told is impossible. (But not by me...so far.)

Modding Pacific War

<t> I have tried opening the PAC.MAP in notepad, and I get all sorts of commas, periods, spaces, slashes, etc. In an effort to determine exactly what these things mean, I have tried adding or replacing them. As soon as I make the slightest change, all I get is a totally screwed up map with bars of ...

RE: How to play?

<t> Yeah, it works. I was just thoroughly surprised to find that the Japanese had taken Rangoon on the second turn. I was trying to remove my task force in the harbour there. In the original version, if I was lucky and played my cards right, I could hold onto Rangoon for the whole game. A bit of a ...

RE: How to play?

I always hated theos MS-DOS icons you get when you run old programs, so I created a couple of cartoon icons for my two versions of PacWar. Anyone want them?

Still hoping for the basic instruction on how to break up a task force in port. How comw "r" doesn't work?

RE: Returning to Pacific War

<t> This may sound silly, but all those years I was playing it, I wondered if it could be extended to include Europe, and have the complete WWII featured there. I think the major problem would be the AI for Germany, unless one could do it as an off-shoot of the Japanese AI, that is, just adding ...

RE: Returning to Pacific War

<t> Thanks for that. I found the download of the new version, took it home, and loaded it. The new scenery looked particularly nice, althought the TF markers were sort of faint and harder to see (although more informative.) I had fun playing the first (historical) turn, but then ran into ...

RE: Returning to Pacific War

<t> I'm an old veteran returning to Pacific War. I got it loaded from my old floppy (having still had a 3.5" floppy drive around), and it plays well. However I was thinking of modifying it and was looking for tools to open up the files when I stumbled on this site. I've been browsing through the ...
